Hacienda Encantada Resort & Spa Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico Stunning doesn’t begin to describe the setting for Hacienda Encantada, a contemporary beachfront hacienda-style resort. Located on a cliff top at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, this welcoming resort offers panoramas of crystal blue water, towering rocks and prickly cacti. The Sea of Cortez and its Land’s End arch lie to the right, the San Jose coastline to the left. Scenery doesn’t get prettier than this. The resort itself complements this breathtaking locale. Its first phase is currently operating with 56 rooms, all suites and each decorated in traditional hacienda style with modern amenities. Handcrafted dark wood furnishings and rich, bright colors offer a traditional Mexican feel, yet from ceiling fans to soaps the extra touches are thoroughly modern. Embroidered pillows, impressive artwork and woven throw rugs add color and texture to the light and airy rooms. Suites are studios and one- and two- bedroom units. Each has a kitchen or kitchenette complete with a refrigerator, electric stove, blender, toaster, microwave oven, can opener and corkscrew. Even the entrance is grand, and reminiscent of colonial Mexican towns. Following a personal greeting, guess are escorted under stone arches, around countless fountains and through lush gardens. A feeling of community builds around Hacienda Encantada’s pool area, which is right near the sand. Comfortable lounge chairs surround seven pristine pools. A whirlpool is ideal for soaking in the glorious sun or under the stars. Plasma televisions add diversion. Tennis courts on the property invite guests seeking activity, as does a putting green (both available in 2008). A glorious array of blissful spa treatments are available, including massages, facials and body scrubs. The spa will open soon. Las Marias Restaurant and Bar is located right on the beach, and serves exceptionally well-prepared Mexican cuisine. The cantina’s décor, paintings and murals are a visually integrated tribute to the women of this beautiful country. For lighter meals, El Patio offers options in a snack-bar format. Groceries and sundries are sold in La Tiendita, an all-in-one supermarket ideal for those wishing to prepare their own meals. The activities desk staff will happily book ATVs, parasailing, snorkeling, diving, fishing and golf adventures. World-class golf facilities are a quick 10-minute drive away. Visitors also enjoy fishing for marlin near the area’s deep-water canyons; shopping for black coral and crafts in Los Cabos’ colonial-style boutiques; and going whale watching, horseback riding and hiking. The tequila museum in downtown Cabo San Lucas is an educational stop that teaches how tequila is distilled. Its exhibits explain the differences among varieties of the regional spirit. Hacienda Encantada is discreetly being expanded. Soon weddings and meetings will be welcome here, offering space for groups of up to 150 guests.
