INSTRUCTIONS FOR COLLECTION OF A SEMINAL FLUID SAMPLE
• • You may collect your sample at home. If you would prefer to collect your sample at the hospital, please advise a member of the fertility team, who will make all the necessary arrangements for you to be provided with suitable facilities in Care 4 Suite, Solihull Hospital. Before collection of your seminal sample, you should not have intercourse or masturbate for at least 2 but no longer than 5 days. Before collecting your specimen, please wash and dry both your genitals and your hands. (Note: soap and water may affect the result.) The specimen should be collected by masturbation directly into the specimen pot provided. Do not use a condom or the withdrawal method (coitus interruptus). Do not add anything to the pot, before or after collection. Please ensure that the lid of the pot is screwed on tightly to prevent any leakage. The sample must be kept at body temperature between the time that the sample is placed in the pot and the pot is delivered to the laboratory. The sperms may die if they become too hot or too cold. The best way to keep the sample at the correct temperature is to place the pot under your arm. The sample must be delivered to the laboratory within one hour of production. Please ensure that your sample is correctly labelled with: 1. Full name 2. Date of birth 3. Hospital registration number 4. The time and date that the sample was produced
