                 OVER-THE-COUNTER DRUG EXPENSES
Medical-Only Expenses
Medical-only expenses are items that are primarily for medical care and will be reimbursed
without a medical practitioner’s note, for example:
− Allergy medicine                                   − Nicotine gum or patches for stop-
− Antacids                                              smoking purposes
− Anti-diarrhea medicine                             − Pain relievers
− Bactine                                            − Sinus medications
− BenGay, Tiger Balm, and similar                    − Sleeping aids to treat occasional
    products for muscle pain or joint pain              insomnia
− Bug bite medication                                − Special diaper rash ointments
− Calamine lotion                                    − Special ointment or cream for sunburn
− Cold medicine                                         (not just regula r skin moisturizers)
− Cough drops                                        − Suppositories and creams for
− First aid cream                                       hemorrhoids
− Laxatives (e.g., Ex-Lax)                           − Throat lozenges
− Menstrual cycle products for pain and              − Visine and other such eye products
    cramp relief                                     − Wart removal treatments
− Motion sickness pills
− Nasal sinus sprays

Dual-Purpose Items
Dual-purpose items may have both a medical purpose and a personal/cosmetic or general health
purpose and will not be reimbursed without a medical practitioner’s note, for example:
− Acne treatment                                   − Medicated shampoos and soaps
− Dietary supplements or herbal                    − Nasal sprays
    medicines                                      − Orthopedic shoes and inserts
− Feminine hygiene products                        − Sleeping aids
− Glucosamine/Chondroitin                          − St. John’s Wort
− Hormone therapy and treatment for                − Sunscreen
    menopause                                      − Weight-loss drugs
− Lactose intolerance pills

Ineligible Expenses
Ineligible expenses are expenses determined to be primarily for general health and well being, for
example:
− Chapstick
− Face cream
− Moisteners
− One-a-day vitamins
− Toothbrush or toothpaste
