Bio Profile of Mike Shiley Award-winning filmmaker, lecturer and photojournalist Mike Shiley, has been to the most dangerous places in the world. He lived in and traveled through the Middle East, covered the war in Iraq, the tsunami in SE Asia and the war in Kosovo. His reports from the frontlines have aired on ABC World News Tonight, Nightline, and three ABC affiliate stations. Shiley has also worked with various humanitarian aid organizations, Internet news sites, and special interest groups. Mike has produced five feature length documentary films profiling the struggles, the small victories and simple stories of the people of third world countries. His film, Inside Iraq, was selected to screen at 14 film festivals and has won BEST DOCUMENTARY three times. Dark Water Rising has been selected as a permanent part of the Hurricane Katrina exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution. An avid world traveler, Mike has visited 38 countries. Mike has trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal and completed a 3,000-mile solo bicycle trip from British Columbia, Canada to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Mike is also an accomplished scuba diver and as a certified Dive master, he has guided over 250 dives in the Red Sea in Egypt. Since 2002, Mike has spoken at universities, performing arts centers, and movie theaters over 400 times in 35 states across the United States. Mike Shiley graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in Marketing and has 15 years of top sales achievement in corporate America. Mike is single and lives in Portland, Oregon with his dog, Bear.
