					            MPMA Quantico Chapter 32 Ladies Auxiliary
                Meeting Minutes from August 7, 2010 @ IHOP Restaurant

I.         Announcements (See attachments to email)

II.        Discussion of Focus Items

      1. Annual Chapter Membership Dues – October 2nd , 2010; National dues September 2011
      2. Drafting Chapter By-Laws – Reconvene October
      3. Sponsorship status – Wal-Mart did not respond to follow-up letter, Target was not able to
         sponsor at this time, and Shoppers Grocery Store sent a $25 gift card. We will continue to
         invite other local businesses to join in supporting our efforts.
      4. Need Volunteer/Nomination for Vacant Positions - 2nd Vice President, Secretary and
         Financial Secretary
      5. Family Cookout “Fun in the Sun” – Discussion of having the event at Lake Landor in Lady
         Smith, VA off exit 110 on September 26th, 1-4pm with piñata, sack race, three-legged race,
         football toss, basketball toss, raffle, and possibly an information table about MPMA. After
         further research and coordination with supporters, decision was made to make Lake Landor
         an alternate location.

         The selected location will be Lunga Park (see attached flyer) located approximately 7.5 west
         of the south gate to Marine Corps Base Quantico. Our goal is to increase visibility within the
         community and enjoying a day out with our families.

      6. National Convention Auxiliary Luncheon & Fashion Show Report – A brief recap of events
         was given and financial report presented by Treasurer with additional funds pending receipt
         from Chapter and National. Update should be completed prior to next meeting.
      7. National Convention Auxiliary Notes – Reading of Auxiliary annual report from March 2010
         to present; Credentials of auxiliary determines voting strength at convention; United Youth
         Connection Funds reactivated and donation in the amount of $25 is due to National each
         fiscal year per auxiliary; By-Law amendments (rules and resolutions) in progress; and
         National Auxiliary Newsletter requesting monthly input i.e. favorite poem, recipe, events,
         special announcements, birthday’s, etc. point of contact is Ms. Tommie Merritt. Lastly, the
         proper why the auxiliaries should address themselves is Ladies Auxiliary of Chapter xx “not”
         Chapter xx Ladies Auxiliary because we are not a chapter but an auxiliary.

      8. 2nd Fund Raisers/Awareness Event – Tentatively October 22nd, 23rd, or 29th/November 19th
         or 20th “Prostate & Colon Cancer Awareness” www.pcf.org and
         www.coloncancerfoundation.org with the theme being SHADES of BLUE. FYI, prostate
         cancer awareness month is September and colon cancer awareness is March. Planning will
         begin with requesting support from credentialed medical professionals within our community
         to be a guest speaker on prostate and colon cancer. We will plan for one speaker per topic
         allowing 30 minutes each with 10-15 minutes for questions and answers (Q&A) after each
         presentation. In addition, we seek someone to share their life changing story as it relates to
         the topic prior to each guest speaker.

        Social hour with hors d’oeuvre will be schedule prior to the guest speakers presenting and
        mix-n-mingle/dancing thereafter. Tickets will be $20 in advance and $25 at the door;
        location and entertainment to-be-determined (TBD). We will seek the most cost effective
        route to putting on this event. All participants are requested to support on a non-monetary
        basis. Guest Speakers and their guest will be given free entry. Auxiliary will present a token
        of appreciation to participants. Lastly, the possibility of joining forces with Phi Beta Sigma
        Fraternity is in progress for this event.

      9. Support the Cause - Cure for prostate cancer 5k Race and 1 Mile Fun Walk will be held
         at Johnny Unitas Stadium, Towson University on Osler Drive in Towson, MD on Sunday,
         September 26, 2010 @0730; entry fee $30-35 (see attached form or go online
         http://www.gpccbaltimore.com/5KRunWalk.aspx).

        The Colon Cancer Foundation's Sixth Annual 5K Family Run/Walk will be held again
        this year in Towson, Maryland just outside Baltimore, MD on Sunday October 31, 2010. You
        can directly support this work by registering to participate in the 5K Run/Walk on October
        31, 2010 @ 0730 – 1000; entry fee $25-30.

        the entire family and help the mission to eliminate colon cancer as a life threatening disease
        through the development and dissemination of educational programs focused on prevention,

III.      Closing

The National President continues to reiterate that “our organization is looking better every day, and
in our efforts to preserve the legacy of what those Montford Pointers did for us all…” it is our
continuous dedication and commitment that keeps this organization alive. Official Day for our
Montford Pointers – August 26th Passed in the Senate of the United States July 22, 2010 (111 th
Congress 2D Session S.RES 587). Milestones in History THE FEW THE PROUD Montford Point
Marines 1942-1949. “Working Together Works”

There is no “I” in the word team and this is a team effort. Collectively we can make a difference!
Please continue to contribute so we do not burn-out team members.

IV.       Continued Roundtable

Increasing visibility of the Ladies Auxiliary continues by: Networking, requesting sponsorship,
church visits, school visits, fundraisers, sharing communications with other associations, word-of-
mouth, emails, and volunteering within the community. Please take time to explore Sponsor a
