This publication from the California State Board of Pharmacy uses a
case-based format to illustrate key points that emphasize practical
applications of drug therapy and management for older adults. The
report, supported in part by the CGEC, is intended to improve the quality
of pharmacists’ care by addressing topics as therapeutic goals, metabolic
issues and patient counseling.

learning objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be better able to:
• Describe the changes in physiology and drug disposition that occurs as part
  of the aging process
• Enumerate the basic principles of geriatric medicine
• Apply principles of geriatric assessment, geriatric pharmacology,
  rehabilitation, and long-term care to the patient-care setting
• Identify psychosocial problems and ethical issues in decision-making, and
  formulate an approach to these problems
• Apply key aspects of neurology, cardiology, psychiatry, urology, pharmacology
  and rheumatology as they apply to older patients

This course is offered in conjunction with the UCLA Intensive Course in Geriatric
Medicine. All sessions are accredited for both pharmacists and physicians.

                The UCSF School of Pharmacy is approved by the
                Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider
                of continuing pharmaceutical education.

preparing for the Certified Geriatric Pharmacists Examination. This examination
is being prepared by the Commission on Certification of Geriatric Pharmacists
(CCGP). Although the general areas of content have been announced, the
questions on the examination are confidential and have NOT been made available
to any organizations, societies, or schools offering “board review courses”.
