Buying a Computer By infomaniacminer Infomaniacminer@gmail.com Buying a computer can be an overwhelming process. The websites that offer reviews seem to provide TOO MUCH information. In reality, there are three things to consider when buying a computer. I’ve listed each below and range of measures for each. 1) Processor: you in the range of 1.8-2.4 2) Memory/RAM: you in the range of 4-8 GB 3) Hard Drive Disk space: you in the range of 250 - 500 GB Unless you play tons of the most recent games loaded with advanced graphics you can easily get away with the recommendations above and have a great experience using your computer. If you don’t understand what each of these do, then think of it in terms of a human. A processor is equivalent to how fast a person can think. Memory is similar to a person’s short term memory. How many things can you do and think of at once. A computer uses RAM to accomplish this. Hard Disk Drive space is the same as how much information a person can store in their long term memory. In the game of Jeopardy it works like this: A question is asked to three contestants. An answer is given by all three. The contestant that provides the correct answer the fastest wins. To do that a person must have the information stored in her long term memory (i.e. Hard Drive), be able to quickly retrieve it using her brain (i.e. Processor) and command her hand to click the button (i.e. Short Term Memory) and provide the answer. A few other tips and points to consider… GB storage is getting cheaper every day. It is very easy and cheep to buy less hard drive disk space on your PC and supplement it with an external hard drive. You should have one anyway to back up your data. Buy refurbished - check out frys.com and buy a refurbished computer. It is great for the environment and you end up with a steal of a deal.
