fielder Chantelle Andrews. With only one out in the top of
the fifth, Denison threatened to score when they loaded the
bases on two Muskie errors. But Muskingum remained poised
and quickly escaped the inning forcing a runner out at home
and then getting another batter to fly out. In the same inning,
Muskingum capitalized on a two-out error by the Big Red when
designated player Mandy Carnes smacked the Muskies second
home run of the game making the score 5-0. Muskingum added
an sixth run in the sixth and claimed the central region title.
This was Denison's first-ever appearence in the NCAA Cham-
pionships. They finish the year with a record of 33-7, while
the Muskies went on to capture the 2001 Division III National
Championship.
