Intermedia ends on a high note at Queensland
events industry awards
LEADING Milton conference management company, Intermedia Convention & Event
Management, has brought a successful conclusion to its 25-year history after winning three
awards at the Queensland Meetings and Events Industry Awards for Excellence on Friday 4
March 2005.

Intermedia took out top honours for Meetings Management – 8 or more employees, Meeting
of the Year – More than 500 delegates for the 10 International Conference on Emergency
Medicine 2004, and the Meetings and Events Manager of the Year award went to Ms Jan
Shaw AMM, Executive Consultant for Intermedia.

Intermedia Convention & Event Management was established in Brisbane by Ray Shaw in
1979 and enjoyed a national reputation as an industry leader for nearly 25 years.

In July 2004, Intermedia merged with Sydney conference management company, ICMS
Australasia, to form Event Planners Australia, the nation‟s premier meeting and event
management company. Adelaide‟s Hartley Management Group joined the national entity in
January this year.

Ray Shaw, now Chairman of Event Planners Australia, said he very proud to win the
accolades and to consolidate and conclude Intermedia‟s successful history.

teamwork, challenges and responses, contribution to the industry, creativity and successful

During the qualifying period 1 July 2003 – 30 June 2004, Intermedia managed 14 major
international, national and local events throughout Australia, and was planning for an
additional six major conferences and events under management.

The award-winning 10 International Conference on Emergency Medicine attracted more
than 890 emergency medicine specialists from around the globe to the Cairns Convention
Centre in June 2004.

Jan Shaw, winner of the coveted of the Meetings and Events Manager Year award, managed
four major national and international events during the qualifying period and was also
planning for and extensive range of future events in her portfolio at the time.

General Manager for the company, Ms Suzanne Best, said Event Planners Australia also
enjoyed success at the Adelaide Meetings and Events Industry Awards for Excellence.

“Our Adelaide Director, Graham Teague, was awarded the „Muriel Ellis Memorial Award for
Outstanding Contribution to the Industry‟,” she said.

“The award was in recognition of Graham‟s extensive participation and initiative while serving
on the South Australian Board for Meetings and Events Australia (formerly the Meetings
Industry Association of Australia) and is yet another example of the commitment to excellence
evident throughout the company.”
