URS History The Rizal State College was established by Republic Act Number 1560 in 1956 as Rizal National Agricultural School (RNAS) and was character as a state college on June 24, 1983 by Batas Pambansa Bilang 662 known as Rizal College of Agriculture and Technology (RCAT) which was later Rival State College (RSC) making it first state college of the Province of Rizal. The college is about 67km from Metro Manila and accessible to all towns of Rizal through Manila East Road through the newly opened sea level in the Sierra Madre Mountain range and is overlooking scenic Laguna Lake and the surrounding lake towns. The College has five extension campuses strategically located in four of the thirteen towns of Rizal namely: Pililia, Rodriguez, Angono, Binangonan and in the lone city of Antipolo which were established in 1991, 1995, 1996 and 2000, respectively. The Rizal Polytechnic College formerly Rizal Technological and Polytechnic Institute (RTPI) was established as a provincial high school in 1944. It is located in the heart of the town of Morong, Rizal. By virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang 469, the school was converted into a tertiary institution and on March 1, 1995, Republic Act Number 7933 converted RTPI into a state college known as Rival Polytechnic College (RPC). The College has an extension campus in Cainta, Rizal which was opened in 1999. With the message of Republic Act Number 9157 on June 2001 which lapsed into law on August 11, 2001, the University of Rizal System (URS) was established by integrating the Rizal State College, Rizal Polytechnic College and

Rizal Technological University Antipolo Annex. Since it’s established the University was served by the following administrations:

At present, the University operates in eight campuses in the Province of Rizal with URS Tanay as its main campus and with eternal campuses in Morong, Pililia, Rodriguez, Angono, Binangonan, Antipolo City and Cainta. It offers complete education from kindergarden to graduate school. As of School of Year 2003-2004, the University implements a number of a academic programs in the doctoral (5) Masteral (6), baccalaureate (28), non-degree, and laboratory schools (high school and elementary) with a total enrolment of 18,973 in the first semester. The University personnel are composed of 696 faculty members and 168 non- teaching personnel.

Part I Introduction On-the-job training (OJT) is one of the best training methods because it is planned, organized and conducted at the employee’s worksite. OJT will generally be the primary method used for broadening employee skills and increasing productivity. It is particularly appropriate for developing proficiency skills unique to an employee’s job – especially jobs that are relatively easy to learn and require locally owned equipment and facilities. Morale, productivity, and professionalism will normally be high in those organizations that employ a sound OJT program. An analysis of the major job requirements (identified in the position description and performance plan) and related knowledge, skills, and abilities form the basis for setting up an OJT plan. OJT is dependent upon the trainer having sufficient knowledge and expertise to impart to the trainee. OJT is important and the quality of OJT can be considerably improved through effective design. Advantages of using OJT  Training can be delivered at the optimum time: for example immediately before a job is to be performed ‘for real’ in the workplace.    The trainee will have the opportunities to practice immediately. The trainee will have immediate feedback. Training is delivered by colleagues and can go someway to integrate the trainee into the team.

Disadvantages of using OJT  There is a tendency to fit OJT in when it is convenient for office routine rather than at the optimum time for learning.  Training may be given piecemeal and not properly planned, and the trainee gains a fragmented picture of the organization.  Too much training can be delivered in one session leading to ‘information overloads’ and trainee fatigue.  The trainer may not have sufficient knowledge of the process or expertise in instructional techniques (a ‘train the trainer’ course may be appropriate).  If immediate practice is not accompanied by feedback the trainee can feel abandoned after the initial experience. Elements of OJT  Preparation: there is nothing worse than trying to demonstrate how to use equipment where the OJT trainer has forgotten the password that gives access to the computer programmer or the key to the equipment cupboard. Good preparation is essential, and the best OJT trainers have useful examples or practice exercises ready in advance.  Start with the learner: begin by assessing how much the learner knows already. The most straightforward questions will elicit the answers and save time. ‘Have you used spreadsheets in previous jobs?’ can save a lot of both persons' time when OJT training in MS-Excel.


Pick the best time: it can be very frustrating to spend Monday afternoon having the procedure for completing time sheets outlined to you when you will fill them in on Friday (by which time you will have forgotten). History of Panasonic Panasonic Manufacturing Philippines Corporation (PMPC) is the maker

and distributor of Panasonic brands of electric and electronics appliance in the country. Founded in 1967, PMPC is the first Filipino-Japanese joint venture operation in the area of consumer electronics in the country. PMPC's history dates back in the early 60s when Mr. Jesus V. del Rosario established the Distributors and Manufacturers Corporation (DMC), producing radios and radio phonos at the sala of his house along San Luis Street in Pasay City with only handful workers. After a year, DMC's manufacturing department was made a separate company and was named Festival Manufacturing Corporation (FMC). Consequently, FMC changed to Precision Electronics Corporation (PEC) in 1965 to signify it’s no nonsense determination to produce products by ways no less than precision manufacturing. The name PEC remained even after the joint venture between PEC and Matsushita Electric Co. Ltd. of Japan (MEI) was formalized in 1967. However, on the occasion of the company's 25th Anniversary in 1992, the name Matsushita Electric Philippines Corporation was adopted. In October 2003, PMPC adopted the single brand strategy of MEI and stopped using "National" brand, as Panasonic became the unified global brand. Following the success of the brand unification, Matsushita Group continued to

solidify its directions and vision towards a new era. One of which was by harmonizing also the corporate name and brand of Matsushita companies outside Japan. Thus, effective April 1, 2005, the company officially changed its corporate name from Matsushita Electric Philippines Corporation to Panasonic Manufacturing Philippines Corporation (PMPC). Under the new corporate name, the company hopes to reinforce its operation and position Panasonic as an aggressive and competitive

manufacturing company that is looking forward to the future with confidence. Consequently, by doing so, PMPC can focus its efforts and resources in serving both the customers and society. As one of the leaders in the industry, the company's corporate mission centers on reconciling the profit motive with service to the nation, uplifting the status of the Filipino workers, and generating foreign exchange earnings for the country. Along this, PMPC continues to establish many "firsts" in the appliance industry. The company, for instance is the first local manufacturer to introduce non-mercury-added batteries and non-CFC refrigerators in the local market. It is likewise the first local appliance-manufacturing firm to earn ISO 9002 certification for all its factories. Being a member of the Matsushita Group of companies worldwide, PMPC's operation is guided by a common set of principles that underscores its responsibility to contribute to the progress and development of society and humanity. As a manifestation of its commitment, PMPC is the first company among appliance manufacturers to obtain ISO 14001 for its manufacturing plants located in Bo. Mapandan, Ortigas Avenue Ext., Taytay,

Rizal and at Laguna Boulevard, Laguna Techno park, Sta. Rosa, Laguna. And in ensuring customer satisfaction, the company has continued to invest in the most modern production and product development facilities in its production lines. At present, the company manufactures and distributes a wide range of electric and electronic products such as refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, washing machine, electric fan, gas stove, electric stove, rice cooker, oven toaster, flat iron, microwave oven, blender, electric thermo pot, vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, shaver, dry battery flashlight, color TV, DVD/VCR/VCD/VHS/CD player, home theater, plasma TV, projection TV, headphone cassette, laser disc player, micro and mini component, radio cassette, digital video camera, digital still camera, corded/cordless phone, fax machine, cellular phone, panaboard, home cinema projector, copier, printer and plasma display panel. Since an enterprise uses society's resources - people, capital, real estate, community services - PMPC believes that it started out and remains indebted to society. And along this premise, the company recognizes that the primary role of its business is to serve society in return for the use of its resources. Thus, devoting its business activities to the progress and development of society and the well being of people. And this commitment serves as guidance in carrying out all its operation and corporate activities with its dynamic workforce.

The General Principle "We recognize our responsibility to our country…. devote ourselves to the further development of the Philippines by processing further our natural resources and promote the general welfare of our countrymen by creating more job opportunities. To attain this objective, we dedicate ourselves to progress and to develop ourselves through continuous appreciation in science and technology, and become a model company. We have to earn for our country foreign exchange through international trade." General Creed Our contribution to the progress and development of our country can be realized only through unity and cooperation of each and every member of the company. In this generation, a progressive company automatically becomes a social organization. It must reconcile the profit motive with service to the nation. For this reason, all of us must keep this principle in our minds as we devote ourselves to the welfare of our company and of the Philippines. REFRIGERATOR DIVISION Refrigerator factory was established in 1975 under the name Precision Appliance Corporation (PACOR) at Taytay, Rival. It started its production of National refrigerators in 1976 with 25 employees. In 1979, however, the company was absorbed by PE (now PMPC). As maker of one of the major product lines of the company, Refrigerator Division has established itself as the pacesetter in the local refrigerator market. And herein lies its best hope of being able to contribute more fully and

significantly to the fulfillment of the company’s general corporate objective. With this determination in mind, PMPC ventured to produce non-CFC (nonchlorofluorocarbon) refrigerators in the country, earning recognitions from various groups, particularly the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). And in 2002, the Division had another breakthrough, achieving its highest market share, production and sales. The concept of getting the Panasonic refrigerator to lead the local market in its category is a result of its continuing commitment to offer the ultimate convenience to the end-users. Thus, n 2005, it introduced the first local frost-free refrigerator in the Philippines. But that is not all. The Refrigerator Division also sees to it that it has a steady pool of competent personnel. Thus, aside from its on-the-job training program, it also sends some of its staff to attend seminars and short courses, both in the country and abroad. At present, Panasonic refrigerator continues to dominate almost half of the local market through the help of Panasonic’s strong-willed workforce whose firm convictions contribute to nation building and the betterment of Filipino consumers.

Part II Narration of Experience April 16, 2008. It was the first day of the on-the-job training. Lianny, the trainee was tense because she did not know what to expect with the department that she will be assign and with the work that she will do. The trainee was assign to the Ref Department. When she came in inside the office of the department, she was conscious because it was a new environment for her. She did not know how to react and she does not even know the people in the office. She was just quiet and tame. Later on Ms. Ludy Valle, her supervisor oriented her on the things she that she should remember while she was in the company. They had a little talk about on their personal lives. Then her supervisor introduced her to other employees. After an hour, Mr. Jessie Mamaril toured her around the department. When they went back to the office, Lianny answered phone calls and then she was ask by Ms. Sol Santos to file the documents. April 17, 2008 is the second day of her OJT. The trainee was still adjusting with the working environment that she had. Her bosses helped her to feel comfortable with the working place. Mr. Jun Benito taught her how to use the copier. After that, Ms. Emily Cosico was the one who taught Lianny how to use the fax machine. Moreover, since the trainee was in purchasing/supply section, Mr. Derick Nieves taught her how to record the data of the materials that the supplier had been delivered. Lastly, she went to the filing room to file the documents.

On the next day April 18, 2008, the trainee was getting relaxed and she was feeling comfortable with the working environment. Most of her bosses were jokers and they were so nice so she felt happy and gay. Her first task this day was to answer phone calls. She should be polite and observed the proper manner in answering calls. After a moment, her boss gave her few documents for filing. It was not hard for her to file because Ms. Sol Santos gave only 2-3 documents to her. Since Lianny was already oriented on how to use the fax machine, Mr. Bong Arjona gave her a purchase order document to fax. She was tense because she will be faxing alone. However, even though she faxed it by herself, she made it. The document was sent to its recipient. On April 21, 2008, she photocopied a file. Unlike with the fax machine, she was confident enough to use the copier. She was glad and amaze about herself because she was learning how to use different machines that is essential for the work. After she photocopied a document, Ms. Ludy Valle asked her to bring important files to other department. Moreover, for the whole afternoon she was just answering phone calls. On the following day April 22, 2008. The trainee filed 2-4 documents inside the filing room. Then Mr. Ogie borrowed her in more than a minute to type his report. She was happy because at last she did something using a computer.

Lianny wanted to be busy. She wanted to experience new things and learn things that cannot be taught in the four corners of the room of the school. She wanted to do something that is related to the work. On April 23, 2008, her wish yesterday was granted. She gained knowledge about the work of a purchaser. Ms. Emily Cosico taught her to make an API or Arrival Production Inventory. API- is a purchase plan. It includes the quantity of materials that the purchaser will order based on last month inventory. The trainee had a chance also to know the basic things in BAAN IV. BAAN IV or automation of P.O – is the system helps on analyzing the purchase plan and afterwards suggests the quantity for order based on inventory level. On the same day, Mr. Derick Nieves taught her how to scan and presto she was able to scan five documents in that morning. She also wrote the critical materials on the information board. Critical Materials- are the materials that must be follow- up by the purchaser because the quantity of it is less than what the production needs in the warehouse. Without the materials, the production will stop producing the product. On April 24, 2008, she scanned again some office paper of Mr. Derick Nieves. After which she filed some documents of Ma’am Sol. Then Ms. Emily continued to teach her about the API. Moreover, for the whole afternoon she answered phone calls.

On the following day, the trainee still used the scanner. Afterwards she filed again some office papers. Then when she was doing nothing, she answered phone calls. Late in the afternoon, she went to warehouse annex 2 together with Ms. Emily to check the actual quantity of SE Cabinets. SE- Super Economy Ref In addition, when they came back to the office, Lianny sat down and waited for the phone to ring. April 28, 2008. The trainee used again the copier. She photocopied important documents of Ms. Ludy. Afterwards she brought the copy of the documents to logistics. Then when she came back to their office, she answered phone calls again. She taught she was in a call center because every minute, and every hour her work this day is to answer all the incoming calls. It was April 29, 2008; she faxed some documents of Mr. Bong Arjona. She was not nervous now because she was already familiar how to use the machine. In the afternoon, Mr. Jessie Mamaril asked her to fix the formula of his forecast delivery of the materials. It was not hard because it is a matter of changing one letter for every row. The next day was the end of the month. Most of her bosses were out of the company. They went to their sub assy supplier to count all supplied materials that are considered as company property. Some of them count the materials that are left in the production.

It was a busy day for the trainee because she did many office works. She photocopied important files of her boss. She continued to fix the formula that she did not finished yesterday. Then she used the baan system to print the necessary data that Ms. Sol Santos needed. It was not difficult to use because there was a procedure to follow. You just have to be focused on what you were doing. Last, she looked for the new model of the parts of a ref in the documents that she printed out. It was thick but she finished it just on time, before the bell rang. May 5, 2008, first Monday of the working day, there was a general morning meeting where everyone in the company was obliged to attend. The trainee was able to attend too. On this day, Lianny recorded the quantity of materials that the supplier had delivered. She input it on the document, which named delivery schedule for the month of May. Sometimes the trainee was having a hard time finding the part number of an item because of its small font. However, when she was used to it, she can able to find it easily. She still photocopied the documents of her boss. May 6, 2008. Mr. Bong Arjona asked the trainee to make a report about what she had learned with the purchasing section. Her boss was helping her to do the report. Nevertheless, most of the ideas came from the trainee. Mr. Bong Arjona was the one who checked it if the construction of words and ideas were correct or not.

When she was relaxing, she recorded the data of the delivery. After that, she continued to make her report. On May 7, 2008, she photocopied some files and brought it to logistics for signing. Then when she came back in the office, she filed some documents in the filing room. After that, she continued her making her report. She made four revisions after Mr. Bong Arjona approved it. He was the trainee’s editor-in-chief. When the report was done, Mr. Bong Arjona asked the trainee to type it and then gave it to her supervisor for re-checking again. Then the supply manager will approve it. May 8, 2008. The trainee still photocopied some documents. She filed some important office papers. Afterwards her boss taught her to compute the inventory. After finished computing, she was asked to type by Mr. Arjona. Then for the whole hours, she was answering calls again. May 9, 2008. Lianny was able to scan again some office papers. She also photocopied files and then the copy was brought to other department. That was it and for the rest of the time, she answered phone calls. On May 12, 2008, again she photocopied some files of her boss. Then she answered phone calls. In the afternoon, Mr. Bong Arjona asked her to shred some confidential papers. It was her first time to use the shredder machine. She thought it was difficult to operate but she was definitely wrong. She enjoyed using the machine.

On the following day May 13, 2008, the trainee did nothing new. She filed some important documents again. Afterwards she used the copier to photocopy a file of her boss. Then she answered calls for the rest of the time. First thing in the morning of May 14, 2008, the trainee faxed a purchase order document. Then she answered phone calls. Moreover, for the rest of the afternoon Mr. Ed Taruc asked her to type the expenses and plans for their outing. May 15, 2008. Nothing new again, she still photocopied office papers. Then bring it to other department. If there were some delivery, her responsibility was to record the data of the quantity of the delivered materials. The next day May 16, 2008 was a boring day for the trainee. She just photocopied some documents. Then for the whole day, she answered phone calls. Last Monday of the OJT, May 19, 2008. The trainee did same thing as before. She faxed a file. She photocopied some documents. Then she recorded the quantity of the delivered materials. May 20, 2008. Nothing special for this day, again the trainee faxed a file. She recorded the quantity of the delivered materials. After that, she just watched and observed the paper works of her boss. She arranged the files by month and by year. On May 21, 2008, first thing she did was to answer phone calls. Then she was asked by her boss to file some documents. After that, Mr. Bong Arjona

asked the trainee to check if the standard quotation of the price were same as with the quotation last Feb., 2008. The next day May 22, 2008, the trainee continued to check the quotation. When it had been re-checked, Mr. Arjona asked Lianny to compute if the total of the adjusted price was the same as with the new price. At first she did not understand what to do, but later on she was able to get the right answer by herself. After it was done, her boss asked her to arrange the PDS sheet. She put the right amount for the designated part number of an item. After that, she filed some documents and again recorded the quantity of the delivered materials. This was the last day of on-the-job training, May 23, 2008. For the last time the trainee photocopied some files. When the phone rang, she was the one who answered it. She continued to arrange the PDS. After a few minutes, her boss asked her to print the standard quotation. Lianny thought that it was easy to print, but it was wrong because it takes a little effort to print. Before printing, she fixed first the margins and the size of the paper, and then she can start printing. Before she left, her Ref Purchasing family gave her a remembrance that made her feel special. She was lucky because her bosses were very nice to her and taught her many things that cannot be taught in school.

Part III Conclusion At the end of the on-the-job training period, the trainee experienced many things and she learned from it. She gained knowledge about the work of a purchaser. She knows the basic things in making an API. She knows how to use the Baan system and how to compute the standard quotation. She also learned how to use different machines like fax machine, Xerox machine, scanner and the shredder. It is important to know how to use these kinds of machines because it is essential for the work. During this time, the trainee experienced how to deal with the people around her, with her co-workers. It is important that one team should have camaraderie so that they can work well and attain their goal. She observed that it was different when you were in school and when you were in the real world. Because most of the time you just learned theoretically in school while in the real world, you actually experienced the things that your trainers taught to you.

Part IV Recommendation Every trainee must be focus to his or her work. They should listen carefully with the instructions of their boss. If they do not understand something, they should ask for help. You should be aggressive in order to learn. You should be the one who take the initiative that you want to learn. Deal with your problem with calmness, so that everything will turn all right. Trainees should always observe the proper attitude while working because your attitude will also affect the work of you co-employees. You should work with promptness and be confident with your job.
