Dear ACSN members,

We regret to inform you that there will not be an ACSN Newsletter this fall. As our past editor
Miranda de Groot explained in the Spring Newsletter, she has decided to terminate her editorship in
part because her full-time job had moved her further away from education and research in Canadian
Studies. At an informal dinner on Canada Day we thanked Miranda for her work on the Newsletter
and we are very grateful to her that she set up the ACSN website. As of this date we have not yet been
able to find a successor to Miranda. Suggestions are welcome! As always, the latest ACSN news will
be found on the website:

On Canada Day we also thanked Nergis Mazid from Canada, an intern selected by the International
Council for Canadian Studies in Ottawa. She worked for half a year on ACSN activities under the
supervision of prof. Hans Bak, Department of English and American Studies at the University of
Nijmegen. Nergis assisted in teaching Canadian postcolonialism, in making recommendations for
Canadian books under the Library Support program and in organizing the successful ACSN/NASA
conference on First Nations of North America: Politics and Representation at the Roosevelt Study
Center in Middelburg at the end of May 2002.

As of 1 September 2002, the ACSN secretariat has moved from Bosweg 12, 6523 NM Nijmegen to
Haven 14, 3243 AH Stad aan ’t Haringvliet. We need not elaborate on Cornelius Remie’s devotion to
Canadian Studies, as he will remain a member of the executive ACSN board. We are extremely
pleased that he will continue to support us with his expertise on matters relating to research and policy.

We would like to hear from you whether you would appreciate a continuation of the Newsletter in the
usual printed form or in e-format. If you do, would you be so kind as to fill out the slip below and
return it to the secretariat. If we have not received your reaction by the end of this year we assume you
will be content to consult our website for upcoming events, for grants and general news items
regarding Canadian Studies. We also draw your attention to the Nieuwsbrief & Culturele Agenda
issued by the Canadian Embassy.

With kind regards,

Hans Bak, President ACSN
Conny Steenman-Marcusse, Vice-President ACSN
