Mixes in a Jar Chicken Soup Starter Mix 1. ¼ cup rice 2. ¼ cup parsley 3. 2 tablespoons chicken bouillon (granules look nicer) 4. ⅛ cup minced onion 5. ¼ cup rice 6. 1 tsp. salt 7. ¼ tsp. pepper 8. Fill to top with egg noodles Place mix in a pint jar. Chicken Soup Recipe Card In a large pan, bring 3 pints of water to a boil. Add contents of pint jar, stir well, reduce heat and simmer covered 1 – 2 hours. The following optional ingredients can also be added to the boiling water. Stir well. 2 stalks chopped celery 2 chopped carrots 1 lb. cut up pieces cooked chicken Cover, turn to low heat and simmer until vegetables are tender (approx. 1½ hour.) Add water and stir as needed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Brownie Mix 1. 1/3 cup cocoa 2. 2/3 cup sugar 3. ½ cup chocolate chips 4. 1¼ cup flour 5. ½ cup M & M’s 6. 2/3 cup brown sugar 7. ½ tsp. salt 8. 1 tsp. baking powder Place mix in a quart jar. Brownie Recipe Card Preheat oven to 350º. Add contents of jar along with 1 tsp. vanilla, 2/3 cup oil, and 3 eggs. Stir well. Pour into a 9” x 9” greased pan and bake for 30 – 35 minutes. Hot Chocolate Mix 3½ cup powdered instant dry milk 1 cup powdered coffee creamer 2 cup sifted powdered sugar ½ cup unsweetened cocoa Dash of salt In a large bowl, combine the above ingredients and stir until the mixture is well blended. Place mix in a wide-mouth one-quart jar. Hot Chocolate Recipe Card For one serving: 5 T. hot chocolate mix mini marshmallows, optional 6 oz. (3/4 cup) boiling water Place the hot chocolate mix in a mug. Pour boiling water over the mixture. Stir until completed dissolved. Garnish with mini marshmallows. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Raspberry Tea Mix 2 large boxes raspberry gelatin 2 tsp. ginger 1¼ c. sugar 1¼ c. unsweetened instant tea Combine the above ingredients in a large bowl and stir until the mixture is blended well. Placed mix in a wide-mouth one-quart jar. Raspberry Tea Card To make one serving: 2 T. raspberry tea mix 8 oz. (1 cup) boiling water or cold water Place the raspberry tea mix in a mug. To make hot tea, pour boiling water over the mixture. To make ice tea, pour cold water over the mixture and add ice cubes. Stir until the mix is completely dissolved. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Attach a gift tag with the directions on how to prepare your mix in a jar. You can cut a square of cloth (4” square) that goes between the canning lid and the piece that twists on. Then you tie the Recipe Card which you punch a hole in, on it with ribbon or jute. You can also add a wooden spoon tied in with the ribbon or jute. Cappuccino Mix 1¼ cup powdered coffee creamer 1¼ cup powdered chocolate flavored drink mix 1 cup plus 2 T. instant coffee granules 2/3 cup sugar ½ tsp. plus 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon ¼ tsp. plus 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg Combine the above ingredients in a large bowl. Stir until well blended. Place mix in a wide-mouth one-quart jar. Cappuccino Recipe Card To make one serving: 2 T. cappuccino mix whipped cream, optional 6 oz. (3/4 cup) boiling water shaved chocolate, optional Place the cappuccino mix in a mug. Pour boiling water over the mixture. Stir until the mix is completely dissolved. If desired, garnish with whipped cream and shaved chocolate. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ M & M’s Cookie Mix 1¼ cup sugar 2 cups flour mixed with 1¼ cups M & M’s candies ½ tsp. baking soda & ½ tsp. baking powder Layer ingredients in order given in a one-quart wide-mouthed jar. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next ingredient. It will be a tight fit! M & M Cookies Recipe Card Empty jar of cookie mix into a large mixing bowl. Blend the mix thoroughly with your hands. Add: 1 stick butter or margarine (not diet), softened 1 egg, slightly beaten 1 tsp. vanilla, optional Mix until completely blended. You will need to finish mixing with your hands. Shape into balls the size of walnuts. Place 2-inches apart on sprayed baking sheets. Bake at 375º for 12 to 14 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to racks to finish cooling. Makes 2½ dozen cookies. Cinnamon Sugar Muffin Mix 2/3 cup sugar mixed with: 1 T. cinnamon 2 T. buttermilk powder (or else leave this and water out and use milk instead) 2/3 cup lightly packed brown sugar 2½ cups flour mixed with: 2 tsp. baking powder ½ tsp. baking soda Sprinkle mix: 2 T. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon Layer ingredients in order given in a one-quart wide-mouth jar. Press each layer firmly in place. Use ball of aluminum foil to tightly fill space at top of jar. Press very firmly to get all ingredients to fit. Put sprinkle ingredients into a sandwich bag and label it “sprinkle”. Place this into jar last, pressing in well. Use large ball of aluminum foil to tightly fill space at top of jar. Cinnamon Sugar Muffins Recipe Card Remove “sprinkle” packet from jar and set aside. Empty jar into a large mixing bowl. Blend dry ingredients thoroughly. Add: ½ cup oil ½ cup water 2 eggs Mix until just blended. Don’t overmix. Fill 15 standard sized muffin cups ¾ full. (Use liners or spray with cooking spray.) Sprinkle cinnamon sugar from reserved packet over batter. Bake at 350º for 20 to 23 minutes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chex Snack Mix ½ cup mixed salted nuts 1 cup Rice Chex cereal ½ cup broken small pretzels ½ tsp. seasoned salt 1 cup Wheat Chex cereal ½ tsp. garlic powder 1 cup Corn Chex cereal Layer ingredients in order given in a one-quart wide-mouth jar. Press each layer firmly in place. Sprinkle seasonings into jar on top of the mix. Chex Snack Mix Recipe Card Empty jar into a large micro safe dish. Melt 2 T. butter or margarine in microwave. Pour butter over mix. Mix well to coat cereals evenly with butter. Microwave on High 2 minutes. Stir well. Microwave 1 additional minute, stir well, and then microwave 1 more minute. Spread mixture on paper towels in a 9” x 13” pan. Allow to cool. Store in airtight container until serving. Can put servings into Ziploc bags – add bows and give as little gifts. Instead of using the microwave – bake these in a 250º oven (in a 9” x 13” pan) for 1 hour (stirring well every 15 minutes).
