Intro
How many of you have someone in your life that you love?
How many have someone you love so much that you would die for that person?
How many of you have someone in your life that loves you?
How many have someone that loves you so much that they would die for you?

Defined by God
God thought you up
He put you here right now and He has a plan that includes you
The devil spends all his time trying to define you
He tricks you into sin and addictions to convince you that you are hopeless

Most people live their lives chasing their own tail
(Doing the same stupid things over and over until they run out of health or money)

Or they‘re chasing someone else‘s tail
(They spend their lives trying to be like someone else or trying to have what
someone else has because they never took the time to discover who they were)

Proverbs 23:7 For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

If you think that you have to make God love you, you will spend your life trying to be
someone He would like.
If you believe that what others think about you defines you then you will spend your
life seeking the approval of other people.
Hate yourself a little today and you will completely despise yourself one day.
Whatever you are imagining in your heart, you will eventually turn into that person.
Your inside will one day become your outside.

Temptation
How do you handle temptation?
Temptation was in the Garden of Eden – back before sin
There will always be temptation – you are not gonna get so righteous that you are
untouchable
God planted the bad tree right in the middle of the garden where they would walk
every day
And it was beautiful and desirable
Why – because He would meet them there to walk and talk
He was more beautiful / desirable – he was beauty itself / pleasure itself
Some things God made just to look at –
but if you fall in love with them they will kill you
Some things God made for other people –
but if you fall in love with them they will kill you

The secret to living a life set apart from sin is picturing everything you see as that
bad tree
It may be beautiful and desirable – as you admire it, tell yourself – He is better
The path – pretty – it‘s not for you

Jonah 2:8 ―Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.‖
You can forfeit the grace that could be yours because of your choice to cling to
something that you love which God did not give to you.

Restraint
Most of us are not trying to be all alone with nothing…we just start pushing people
away because we don‘t like their rules or ideas.
We do our own thing and because it doesn‘t kill us we think we can get away with it
as a way of life

Who is left to restrain you after you eliminate the Bible‘s rules, or right and wrong,
the world‘s laws, or the expectation of friends or family who want to live in
relationship with you?
No one is left to stop you from becoming the worst you can be
When you become your worst you allow Satan to mold you into his best

Romans 2:3-9 ...Do you think that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you
despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that
the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But in accordance with your
hardness and your impenitent heart (not sorry) you are treasuring up for yourself
wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who ―will
render to each one according to his deeds‖: 7 eternal life to those who by patient
continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who
are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation
and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil..

That verse promises hell for eternity for those who disobey, but what about while we
are here on earth – does our selfishness cause us any problems?

Romans 1:28-32 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge,
God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not
fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness,
covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-
mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud,
boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning,
untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;32 who, knowing the righteous
judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not
only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

After a man has demanded his own way and cast off all restraint – God sends a
delusion – so that man can no longer do the right thing without also doing wrong –
he is out of control

They are on the wrong side of stupid – something must move them back
This is not God hating them, but sending them to the bottom so that their hearts will
awaken

Then he sends pure hearts to minister or to suffer or even die for them so they will
see love
Because they can‘t recognize love anymore
(they rejected love when love came as ―the law‖ – then love was trying to protect
them)
Our hearts are deceitful so often we need others to help us recognize evil as bad.

Are You Submitting to God?
Pr 4:18-19 But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter
unto the perfect day. 19 The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know
what makes them stumble.

It‘s really easy to see where you are at by how bright you are shining
If you are not getting brighter and brighter, you‘re on the wrong path
If you‘re stumbling and don‘t know why, you‘re on the wrong path
You have to Go back – repent – then start again on the right path
You have to find the right path – wrong never leads to right – ever
The wrong path will always be the wrong path – even if a Christian is on it
Those who are led by the Spirit, these are the sons of God
God must and will deal with all selfishness and rebellion

Is 60:1-2 Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen
upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the
people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you.

God is going to turn us inside out so that the glory that is now inside us will be on the
outside
but wait – when that happens - everything else on the inside will be revealed
God is shaking us free from those things which are not worthy of revealing
What was done in darkness will be shouted from the mountains
If we want to shout about Christ in us – we also have to be transparent with anything
else in us

The harvest is coming – both the good and the bad
Whatever the world has sown it will reap
Whatever we have sown we will reap
Deep darkness comes mature at the same time the light does – because He has let
the wheat and the tares grow together

Right and Wrong
There was no king in the land and everyone did what was right in own eyes
If you are doing what‘s right in your own eyes,
it‘s because there is no king in your land
The king of the kingdom of God is Jesus and this is His word –
it‘s what is right in His eyes
He didn‘t give us His standards because ours weren‘t high enough –
it‘s worse than that
His were right – ours were wrong – none of ours were right

Sin isn‘t the real issue for a Christian – Is this a sin, is that a sin? You are the issue
The reason you can‘t consistently say no to you,
Is because you haven‘t learned to say yes to Jesus –

Sin isn‘t your problem – you are your problem
You are your own God – you make the rules that you live by
Those who are led by the Spirit – these are the sons of God

Jeremiah said that your sin will rebuke you – but only if you call it sin and not just
flesh, or a habit, or a weakness, or your personality, the way my daddy did it, a little
addiction, or just pornography – I‘m not hurting anyone
Where are the saints crying out to God because they are afraid they have grieved
the Holy Spirit?
Most people aren‘t close enough to God to even notice that He left
2 things can motivate you: Love for God or fear of God‘s justice

The most powerful force in our lives isn‘t God – it should be
The most powerful force in your life is a habit
You alone have the power to change them
Mark 7:13 warns us that we can ―make the word of God of no effect (powerless)
through your tradition which you have handed down.‖ - traditions are habits, ways
Until you repent of your lifestyle - You won‘t change it
Plum Tree
I believe that the first person you should evangelize is yourself

Luke 6:43-46 ―For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear
good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from
thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. A good man out of the good
treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his
heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. ―But
why do you call Me ‗Lord, Lord,‘ and not do the things which I say?

Share plum tree story

If we say we are a plum tree and never produce plums,
we are in fact just a purple tree
We take our life back
Or we ask Jesus in our heart,
but then just carry Him along with all the other stuff in our heart
But we never really give Him our life and live as a dead man

Almost everyone I meet says they are saved. Many are cowardly, unbelieving,
abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and liars who the
bible promises will have their part in the lake of fire, but bless God they‘re confident
that they are saved because they prayed a prayer.

If you look like the world and talk like the world, and act like the world and love the
same things that the world does – it‘s because you are the world

If I came in here late today and came up and said sorry I‘m late but I got run over by
one of those big cement trucks. It veered into my lane and crushed my car flat.
There was blood everywhere.
What do you suppose he would say to that excuse? - He‘d say I was lying
And if you tell me that God (who is infinitely bigger than a cement truck) has
slammed into your life and has made no noticeable difference in your life –
well I say you‘re a liar and you don‘t in fact know God

Just because you live a lie for 20 years doesn‘t make any less of a lie
And just because you have met someone doesn‘t mean you know them

Churchianity vs Christianity (John G Lake)
Churchianity is the generic version of Christianity
If you have to redefine it then it is not it
Fat Habits – we all have qualities that we picked up from parents, from our own
unforgiveness
What you call your ―salvation‖ can instantly become a habit, rather than a power in
your life
The question never was ―can you lose your salvation‖
The question is ―Is your salvation currently connected to Christ‖

John 5:41-44 ―I do not receive honor from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not
have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in My Father‘s name, and you do not
receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. 44 How can you
believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor
that comes from the only God?
(Share story of reading this by Smith Wigglesworth – and being ruined)

Your Great Reward
Genesis 15:1-2 After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: ―Do not
be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.‖ 2 But Abram said,
―Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless… (This was 10
years after God promised him a son)
―I want what I want – there‘s nothing else that will satisfy me.‖
When we don‘t get what we think we deserve, we eventually give up on God and try
to find a way to get it on our own. (Ishmael was soon to be born)

When we see life through our own eyes, we miss God‘s plan for our life.
We live in despair not imagining what can happen – the devil steals our faith.

―What can you give…‖ God was not yet his great reward – and Abraham would one
day be tested with the life of his son because of this flaw in his character.

1 Kings 19:4 (Elijah) - But he himself went a day‘s journey into the wilderness, and
came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said,
―It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!‖

Life had failed Elijah – things went so unexpected that he got depressed.
You may say to yourself – I failed…or this thing happened to me…now my dreams
can‘t come true…I can‘t be all that I could have been.

Isaiah 61
Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners (NIV)
(And the opening of the prison to those who are bound) NKJ.
3 types of people in need:

Brokenhearted
Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out
of My Spirit on all flesh (anointing); Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.‖
Your dream was stolen or redefined
You need to let God anoint you to dream again.
We all have broken hearts inside us – it‘s a reality
We all need inner healing (binding up), not just salvation, anointing, etc

Captives - of sin (bad choices and refusing to repent)
The power of Sin was destroyed on the cross
So, you have to believe a lie to fall under the power of sin now
You will know the truth and the truth will set you free – Call it a lie/Call it a sin

Prisoners - Judges imprison unjust people to bring about justice –
You don‘t have the right to have unforgiveness
Unforgiveness will keep you imprisoned no matter how guilty your attacker was.
You will be bound until you forgive.

Isaiah 61:2-4 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of
vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who
mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The
garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of
righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.‖ 4 And they shall
rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair
the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations.

Bitterness to Freedom
What defines you?
Defined by rejection, insecurity, fear, ambition, loneliness, abuse, gangs

What your heart desires will define you
God put a longing in you – it is what will define you
The flip side of your greatest strength is your greatest weakness
What is your most consistent regret or failure – it‘s defining you

What defines most people?
Offense – they are offended – they have unforgiveness toward someone
We refuse to love the unlovable – we think we are justified to feel the way we do
Why - we don‘t forgive because we don‘t trust God to get sufficient justice for us
Satan is the source of all pain
He is the source of your pain
And he‘s the source behind the people who caused you pain

You can blame the people, but it‘s not their fault
It‘s their sin – but not their fault
Weariness comes from babysitting someone else‘s pain
Forgiveness gives the kid back to the daddy
If you keep it and feed and raise it, it will grow into your daddy

BURR – we become cold
Bitterness – separate the person from the demon
Unforgiveness – making and keeping a list of offenses
Resentment – meditating on the offenses
Retaliation – they will regret it
Fear/Expectations
Anger – I‘m right to feel the way I do – justified
Hatred – they have no reason to exist
Violence – they will feel my pain
Murder – physical or verbal

This is progressive – unforgiveness is a sign of bitterness
If you can feel a ping – you have bitterness
Even if you have forgive them a hundred times
When the ping is gone – and you love them like yourself

Release them and keep moving
They are not off the hook – they are given to God for Him to deal with
Their sin is not condoned
You must give them the right to fail
