South Dakota ArcGIS Helpful Hint
Tip/Hint Title: Adding a Missing Toolkit Toolbar Back into a Project
Submitted by Brian Johnston Date: March, 2007
Purpose: On occasion, a user may find that their Toolkit Toolbar has disappeared. Usually, the Toolkit Toolbar can be brought back in by clicking the NRCS Raindrop Button . Sometimes, however, the NRCS Raindrop Button is missing as well. These instructions will go through the steps needed to get the NRCS Raindrop Button back into your project. Instructions: The first step is to see if the NRCS Raindrop Button already in the ArcMap project. Search the toolbars for a button that looks like this: If this button is there, click it and the Toolkit Toolbar will appear, and there is no need to go any further. If the NRCS Raindrop Button is missing, continue on to the next steps. In order to get the NRCS Raindrop Button into the project, the “Customize” Menu has to be opened. There are several ways to get there. The two following options are the most common. (Pick one of the following two options) OPTION A: Double left-click in an empty area of your Toolbars. Please see the following:
Double Left-Click in this area. Be sure not to Click on any existing Toolbar.

OPTION B: Right click in the same empty area of the Toolbars mentioned above. The “Customize” option is in this menu near the bottom:
Right Click here and a list of Toolbar options appear.
Arrow down to the bottom and click “Customize”

Both methods will go to the same Customize Dialog. Please be careful when in the Customize Dialog. Changes made here can alter all ArcMap projects. If at any point, there are any questions or concerns, don‟t hesitate to call your area GIS Specialist for help.
This is what the Customize Dialog looks like:
Next click on the Commands Tab

This is what the dialog box should look like after clicking the commands tab:
Make sure to change the “Save in:” option to Normal.mxt. This means that changes being made will take effect in all ArcMap projects, and not just this particular project. In the left “Categories” pane, select “Customer Service Toolkit”:
In the right “Commands” Pane, scroll to the bottom and locate the “Toolkit Toolbar” Command.

NOTE: if either of these is missing, please contact your area GIS Specialist. Once the “Toolkit Toolbar” is selected, left click and hold the left mouse button down on top of the “Toolkit Toolbar”. The “Toolkit Toolbar” has now been „grabbed‟ and can be moved up to an area in an existing toolbar. As the new command is being moved, there will be a circle with a line through it that depicts areas the command cannot be dropped. This “not allowed” symbol will disappear when an area is reached that is acceptable to place the new button.
The right side of the Standard Toolbar is a good place to place the NRCS Raindrop Button.
This is an area where Arcmap will not allow the tool to be placed.
Once the “Toolkit Toolbar” has been placed in the Standard Toolbar, it becomes the familiar “NRCS Raindrop” symbol. After the raindrop symbol has been placed, close out the Customize dialog and click the raindrop. The Toolkit Toolbar should appear. In some situations a restart of ArcMap is necessary for the change to fully take effect. Click the Cyber-farmer and if there are no plans, restart ArcMap and the plans will be reloaded. Contact your area GIS specialist with any questions / concerns.
