The 2011 model range marks a turn of the
tide for KTM’s motocross line-up – a change
hallmarked by the signature of ten times MX
world champion Stefan Everts. heading the
KTM factory racing team, he also involved
himself deeply in the development process.
The benefits are apparent even on the new
125 cc bike. against the general trend
toward aluminium frames, the KTM SX range
uses a newly developed chassis welded
from top quality chrome molybdenum steel.
Besides numerous other advantages, this
frame weighs a full 500 grams less than
the nearest competitor. Thanks to the new
swingarm and wheels, unsprung masses are
down, too. The new WP monoshock is seven
millimetres longer for a faster rising rate of
the linkless PDS rear suspension and has a
new spring rate adjuster for easier operation.

The My 2011 150 SX benefits from the
same innovations as the 125 cc model.
For example, the new frame has 30% more
torsional rigidity, while its selectively lowered
longitudinal rigidity supports the absorption
of energy from rear wheel impacts. The
new bodywork of the KTM SX range has
been designed by KTM’s “dream team”
with designer gerald Kiska and MX legend
Stefan Everts. The lean tank-seat combi-
nation offers perfectly ergonomical contact

ThE WoRLD ChaMPIoNShIP CoNCEPT
as demonstrated not the least by three
consecutive titles between 2008 and
2010, the 250 cc 4-stroke offers KTM
riders the best balance of performance
and handling in the MX2. In order to
keep that edge in 2011, the SX-F’s latest
incarnation underwent extensive deve-
lopment. Instead of the previous carbu-
rettor, the new model gains the advanced
Keihin engine management of the brand
new 350 SX-F. The rider has the choice
between three different mappings. Further
optimization of the intake port, combined
with new timings, a re-shaped intake boot
and a new exhaust system, makes for a
marked flow rate increase, especially in
mid-range. an optional electric starter is
available for retrofit. Chassis-wise, as of
My 2011, all KTM 4-stroke MX bikes use
a new linkage-type rising rate rear suspen-
sion. Top riders will benefit from this new
system in combination with the 4-stroke
engines, especially in Supercross and on
the most demanding MX tracks.

Even in its first MX1 race, antonio Cairoli
proved the potential of the new KTM 350
SX-F with a victory. It is the brain-child of
ten-times World Champion Stefan Everts,
who has been meticulously perfecting the
concept in collaboration with the KTM
development team. Cairoli has impressively
proven the potential of the new KTM 350
SX-F by winning the MX1 world champi-
onship comfortably. hardly any less power
than a 450, combined with the agility of a
250 – that, in a nutshell, is the basic idea.
The centrepiece of the extremely compact
single is a brilliant DohC cylinder head with
titanium valves and DLC coated followers.
Welded from chrome-molybdenum steel
sections, the light 2011 frame of the KTM
4-stroke MX bikes mainly differs from that
of the new 2-stroke models by the linkage
connecting the WP monoshock, as well as

faster rising rate and wider set-up ranges

fire-breathing single into usable traction

optimized piston and enhanced bushings

KTM developed this mighty cross-country
aTv in the USa in close co-operation with
leading american aTv experts. and don‘t
let the mirrors and lights fool you – this is
not made for agriculture. The 525 XC is a
full-blooded racer, set to raise the bar in
cross-country. That is not the least what
enabled Camelia Liparoti to put a slightly
modified rally version onto the grid of the
Dakar 2009 in argentinia. at a track width
of 1,115 mm front and 1,148 mm rear, the
vehicle is cut out for maximum manoeuvra-
bility and punch in the underbrush, which
take a higher priority in cross-country than
the last bit of extra stability for jumps. The

v2, as powerful as it is compact, deli-

The 2011 limited edition adventure
“Dakar” breathes the spirit of the greatest
raids of all times. authentic, “cigarette
blue” plastic parts with the Bedouine
graphics of KTM’s factory racers cover
the orange frame. a high-quality suede-
look seat cover looks good and prevents
slippage even on extreme tracks. at the
same time, the “Dakar” combines popular
features of both the other models – while
the adventure donates the suspension
with 210 mm of travel as well as the
sensitive Bosch aBS, the engine is that of
the adventure R with 115 bhp.

What isn’t there won’t weigh you down –
that is the philosophy of the 690 SMC.
a brawny single, a rugged frame, draped
with only the most essential components
– that is all it takes for happy drifting on
road and track. and the way to achieve
a sensational dry weight of less than
140 kilos. Even the tubes in the tires
are discarded thanks to specially deve-
loped wire wheels with airtight beds. The
effort is well worth it, especially on the
unsprung masses, as every gram saved
here lets the first rate, fully adjustable WP
suspension work even more efficiently.
Small wonder that the 654cc single,
here with an extra hot, totally free revving
mapping, has an easy time propelling this
hard core Supermoto. Under the circum-
stances, a single, 320mm Brembo disc
in the front wheel is completely sufficient

KTM takes the gloves off – as of My 2011,
youths and the young-at-heart may look
forward to the first street-legal 125 cc bike
from Mattighofen. Maximum riding fun
thanks to fully-fledged motorcycle techno-
logy at a reasonable price – who could ever
resist? The driving force is a state-of-the-art
4-stroke single, specially developed for
the 125 Duke, with a sophisticated DohC
4-valve cylinder head and liquid cooling.
It delivers 15 PS – the legal limit of many
markets – without breaking a sweat. The
high-mileage engine not just has a well-
balanced power delivery but also high refi-
nement thanks to an integrated balancer
shaft. an advanced electronic fuel injection
and 3-way catalytic converter ensure clean
emissions. a very light steel trellis frame,
equipped with high quality WP suspension
components, makes for dynamic fun in the
twisties. Masses grouped tightly around the
centre of gravity, like the main silencer right
behind the engine, also do not exactly hurt.

ThE ESSENCE oF MoToRCyCLINg
a modern, high-powered single in an
ultra-light, radical chassis – KTM‘s recipe
for great fun on all sorts of back roads is
as valid today as it was on the first day.
Some may find it hard to believe, but it
has in fact already been 17 years since
the launch of the first Duke. Delivering a
whopping 65 PS (48 kW), thanks to semi-
dry sump lubrication, large valve cross-
sections and a high compression ratio of
11.8:1, its short-stroke, third-generation
LC4 single is among the most powerful
street legal 1-cylinder engines. Welded
from high quality chrome-moly-bdenum
steel sections, the extremely rigid, ultra-
agile and super-light trellis frame is the
perfect place for it. Sensitive, fully adjus-
table upside-down front forks by WP with
48 mm lowers and 140 mm of travel
provide perfect guidance even on badly
neglected local roads. The rear monos-
hock by the same supplier is connected
by a linkage-type suspension. a radial
Brembo four-pot front calliper with four
individual brake pads on a 320 mm disc
makes for fierce stopping power and

WoRLD‘S MoST PoWERFUL SINgLE
70 PS from a 1-cylinder engine – not
so long ago, this kind of power was only
to be had from a methanol-breathing
Speedway single. accordingly, the world
of motorcycles was staggered when KTM
quoted that figure for its latest street-legal,
mass-produced single last year. a cranks-
haft with an additional 4.5 mm of stroke
boosts the „R“ engine by an extra 36 cc
of displacement, compared to the regular
Duke. In addition, there is a still higher
compression of 12.5:1 and an extra-light,
forged piston. But the dry numbers cannot

begin to describe the riding experience
on a 690 Duke R, which has more torque
across the whole rev range while a handy
mapping switch deploys a tamer, smoo-
thened response if needed. Its massive WP
upside-down forks are even more sensi-
tive due to the TialN coated lower tubes.
The rear WP monoshock has separate,
low speed and high speed compression
adjustments. Dramatic stoppies are made
easy by the radial Brembo four-pot calliper
on a 320mm front brake disc. a classy

MaDE To SNaTCh ThE LEaD
Thoroughly enhanced for My 2011, the new
RC8 R benefits massively from racing, with
KTM factory riders closely collaborating with
the developers and providing input from the
analysis of their IDM Superbike races. a new
crankshaft and revised flywheel masses have
the 75° twin revving even more smoothly.
Then there is a new dual-plug ignition for
enhanced combustion control, with the
pleasant side effect of more power – output
now peaks at 175 PS and torque at 127 Nm.
The chassis has a new eccentric bracket in
the rear wheel suspension linkage, allowing
for quick ride height adjustment. The exten-
sive re-tuning of the suspension has yielded
a more composed and comfortable ride, felt
not the least on public roads. In that context,
the new oEM tire choice is a perfect match
– the fantastic Dunlop SportSmart, launched
only recently, is the first uncompromising
hypersports tire to also deliver a first-rate

In model year 2011, KTM offers its first
racing-only, limited production racer edition
of the RC8 R. Potential buyers include
riders competing on a national champion-
ship level as well as committed amateurs
who intend to use their sport bike exclusi-
vely on racetracks. The bike has a super-
stock homologation and is assembled by the
KTM racing department, using numerous
goodies from the KTM PowerParts range
which are essential for serious racing. 180
PS care for adequate propulsion, the addi-
tion of a mechanical anti-hopping clutch
minimizes rear wheel hop under massive
braking. Leave the shop and lay down the
fastest lap of the trackday without any
conversions, with the possible exception
of a stop-over at the painter’s to apply your
main sponsor’s colour scheme.

Schwarz and Erich Trunkenpolz, son of KTM

 Enduro and MX riders are finding it ever
 more difficult to locate areas where they
 are legally allowed to practise and ride
 off-road together with fellow enthusiasts.
 To remedy this situation, KTM is taking
 the offensive, starting a chain of professi-
 onal camps in Europe that operate on the
 highest level of excellence.

 Utilizing demanding trails and MX tracks
 in numerous European countries, the
 program comprises KTM Kids Training
 Camps, KTM Enduro/MX Camps and KTM
 Enduro/MX Race Camps. These facilities
 allow for a varied and versatile curriculum
 for participants of every skill level from
 occasional trail bikers to professional
 racers. over the course of a weekend,
 participants hone their skills and file
 down their lap times in systematic exer-
 cises under the tutelage of acknowledged
 racing professionals. In the KTM Kids
 Training Camps, children and adolescents

are a rewarding experience for riders on
