If the answer is no, please explain on a separate sheet of paper citing the Element and Description of non-compliance and what needs to be done to bring it into compliance. Page Two PARKING (UFAS 4.6) Mobility-impaired people need parking spaces wide enough to open car doors fully and get out with a wheel chair or mobility aid, that are close to the building or facility and on an accessible route from parking lot to building. 1. There shall be at least one (1) accessible parking space with an adjacent access aisle for every 25 standard spaces. Accessible spaces shall be at least 8’-0” (96”) wide by 20’-0” (240”) long with an adjacent access aisle at least 8’-0” (96”) wide by 20’-0” (240”) long. [BCNYS 1101.1(e) (2)]. Two spaces may share one access aisle between them. It is recommended that the International Symbol of Accessibility be painted on the pavement in a color contrasting with the pavement color but not required. (See signage section.) Comments: 2. At least one (1) of these fully accessible spaces shall be designated as a "Van Accessible" parking space with signage that so indicates. [BCNYS 1101.1(e) (2)]. (Also refer to the signage section.) All accessible parking spaces shall display the International Symbol of Accessibility positioned so that it is visible from the driver's seat of the vehicle not less than 5’-0” (60”) or more than 7’-0” (84”) clear, from ground to bottom of the sign. Comments: RAMPS (UFAS 4.8) Ramps shall be straight, gently sloped with handrails on both sides, with no drop-offs, and a smooth, stable surface with level top and bottom platforms for resting and turning. Curb ramps minimum of 3’-0” (36") clear width and not obstructed by vehicles or objects. (Curb ramps do not require handrails.) Comments: 10. Surface shall be non-slip, firm, stable, and for outdoor installations shall not accumulate water. Comments: 12. Walls, railings or curbs at least 4" high to prevent slipping off ramp. Comments: 13. Level landing as wide as ramp and at least 5’-0” (60") long at top and bottom of ramp and each turn of ramp. Comments: 14. Ramp at least 3’-0” (36") wide and rises no more than 2’-6” (30") without a level landing. Transitions at the top and bottom shall be smooth with a threshold that does not exceed ¼” beveled or ½” unbeveled. Comments: 15. Handrails shall be graspable and located on both sides. Clear space between the handrail and the wall shall be 1 ½”". Handrails shall be 1 ¼” – 1 ½” in diameter, and 2’-6” (30") to 2’-10” (34") above ramp surfaces. Comments: 16. Handrails on both sides solidly anchored with fittings that are secure and do not rotate. Railings shall extend a minimum of 1’-0” (12”) beyond the edge of the ramp, top and bottom. Page Six STAIRS (UFAS 4.9)* It is a common misconception that stair design has nothing to do with the provision of access. On the contrary, many ambulatory people who walk with difficulty and/or with the aid of crutches, canes and braces prefer the use of steps to ramps , and often to escalators. UFAS requires that all steps on a given set of stairs have uniform riser heights and uniform tread width. 36. Uniform riser height (not greater than 6”- 7”) and uniform tread depth (not less than 11”) for each set of stairs. Open risers are not permitted. Comments: 37. UFAS specifies that the undersides of nosings shall not be abrupt, and the radius of the curvature of the leading edge of the tread shall be no greater than ½”. Risers are also required to be sloped or the underside of the nosing shall have an angle not less than 60 degrees from the horizontal. Nosings shall not project more than 1 ½” from the face of the riser. Comments: 38. Sight-impaired people need a path free of hazards such as low-hanging/protruding objects undetectable by a cane 39. YES NO N/A Page Seven TOILET FACILITIES (UFAS 4.16 - 4.26) Fixtures need adequate clear floor space for close approach and turning, and some require sturdily mounted grab bars for support or transfer (minimum 250 lb/f). Controls and hardware must be within reach and easily operable. Hot, sharp, abrasive, or protruding objects are hazards. TOILET FACILITIES (UFAS 4.16 - 4.26) continued 44. Movable objects like trashcans, cables, boxes, equipment, and beverage machines do not protrude into accessible routes. Comments: 45. Identified by the International Symbol of Accessibility. Clear openings of doorways and gates shall be measured between the face of the door and the stop, with the door open 90 degrees. Comments: 47.
