Accounting 2101 Principles of Accounting I: Financial Accounting Grading Grading scale 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 60-69 D 0-59 F 4 tests and the Final Exam (500 of 725 total points) Test 1 (100 points) Ch 1 – Introduction to Financial Statements Ch 2 – A Further Look at Financial Statements Ch 3 – The Accounting Information System Test 2 (100 points) Ch 4 – Accrual Accounting Concepts Ch 5 – Merchandising Operations Ch 6 – Reporting and Analyzing Inventory Test 3 (100 points) Ch 8 – Reporting and Analyzing Receivables Ch 9 – Reporting and Analyzing Long-Lived Assets Ch 10 – Reporting and Analyzing Liabilities Test 4 (100 points) Ch 11 – Reporting and Analyzing Stockholders’ Equity Ch 12 – Statement of Cash Flows Ch 13 – Financial Analysis – The Big Picture Final Exam-Cumulative (100 points) On the tests and the Final Exam, you may use your book, notes, or any other resource materials. You may NOT use the assistance of another person. If all tests are taken, I will substitute the grade on the Final Exam for the lowest of the four test grades in computing the grade for the course (assuming this improves the grade for the course). The Final Exam must be taken. Remember that the Final Exam is cumulative (covers all material in the course). If one test is missed for any reason, I will use the grade on the Final Exam as the grade on the missed test (and as the grade on the Final Exam). Remember that the Final Exam is cumulative (covers all material in the course). Chapter Quizzes (100 of 725 total points) On the chapter quizzes, you may use your book, notes, or any other resource materials. You may NOT use the assistance of another person. I do not give makeup chapter quizzes; each quiz is only a very small portion of the total grade (10 of 725 total points; about 1%). Also, 20 extra credit points are part of the chapter quiz grading because you have 12 chapter quizzes (12 quizzes times 10 points per quiz equals 120 points.). You can miss 2 chapter quizzes and still get the 100 points assigned to chapter quizzes. Homework (WileyPlus) Assignments (100 of 725 total points) Doing the homework assignments is very important. Accounting is a subject that you learn by doing. You must do and understand the homework to learn the material. The homework has two purposes. First, you will be much better prepared for the chapter quizzes and major tests if you do the homework. Second, by checking your completion of the homework, I can tell if you are making an effort in the course. The homework assignments are submitted using the WileyPlus software available with the textbook. Homework must be submitted by the due date and time. You are allowed three submissions on the homework. I do not allow makeup homework assignments; each assignment is only a very small portion of the total grade (10 of 725 total points; about 1%). Also, 10 extra credit points are part of the homework grading because you have 11 assignments (11 assignments times 10 points per assignment equals 110 points.). You can miss 1 assignment and still get the 100 points assigned to homework. Writing Assignment (25 of 725 total points) All disciplines at Georgia Perimeter College are encouraged to participate in the College's Writing Across the Curriculum program. The ability to express ideas clearly in writing is important in business and Accounting. For this reason, writing is part of the grade in this course. The writing assignment is short and is done using the material you have gotten in the course. It is not a research paper.
