Yorkville High School The #1 thing colleges look for… GPA… ACT score… Class rank… That’s it right? #1 COURSE RIGOR and GRADE PATTERNS Yorkville High School University of Illinois— Urbana Champaign Minimum subject matter requirements must be met. The rigor of the curriculum is strongly considered. Illinois appreciates applicants who take challenging courses, including honors, Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses if available. When assessing academic achievement, course grades as well as grade trends are important, including course selection and grades in relation to desired major. A strong senior schedule is also encouraged, as it helps show the applicant’s commitment to higher education. If the high school provides a class rank, that is taken into consideration as well. Yorkville High School English: Four years Mathematics: Three years Science: Three years Social Studies: Three years Electives: Two years of academic or vocational electives. Foreign Language: Two years* *Foreign Language is not an entrance requirement; however Eastern does require one year in a single foreign language for graduation. Students with two years of a single foreign language in high school with a C or better average will be considered to have met this requirement. 9th grade classes English math Intro to Lab Science World History PE/health Academic Enrichment electives Yorkville High School The 4 Big Questions 1) Answer: 27 total and 1) How many freshman are placed in credits… college prep (i.e. all core classes) mandatory 2) What exactly is 2) Answer: It depends… needed… 3) If failure then 3) Answer: Accept struggle as a condition of real learning what… 4) Answer: Check your verification sheets in April 4) Placement… and call with questions Yorkville High School CAN I CHANGE MY SCHEDULE IF I CHANGE MY MIND?
