In addition, the hospital requirements include: (1) Interview with the volunteer coordinator, (2) Receipt of a standard hospital volunteer training manual and then tested, (3) required attendance to a two session orientation, (4) Have two (2) negative TB tests initially, then annual, (5) ID Badge for security (both street clothes and clown). Clown Training requirements: Hospital Clowning is part of the 30 hour hours of classes all clowns receive. Caring clowns receive special hospital instructional book which is reviewed during the class. In addition, during the year, one hospital clown meeting is held to review any changes. Clown alley has a hospital coordinator for each hospital serviced responsible for maintaining communications with the volunteer coordinator at the hospital and completing evaluations. Follow up after training consists of the new clowns paired with more experienced clowns and rotated for exposure, educational material shared during regular meetings and tips/experiences shared in the monthly newsletter.
