           GUIDANCE NOTES FOR PERSONS VACATING PROPERTY (INCLUDING TRANSFERS)


HANDOVER OF KEYS

Please label and return all your household keys (front door, back door, outside store, window locks, etc.) When you leave the
property please secure all windows, lock and bolt back or side doors and ensure that the front door to your home is locked.

RENT IS DUE…..

Until the end of your notice period. However, if you hand in your keys later than agreed, rent will be charged.

WATER, GAS AND ELECTRICITY

It is most important that water, gas and electricity are turned off at the mains. Please ensure that you notify gas and
electricity boards (and Telephone Supplier if you are on the phone) that you are moving. Make sure that the gas and
electricity boards call and read your meters and that any coin boxes are emptied.

YOU SHOULD MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO CLEAR THE PROPRTY AND GARDEN………..

Please ensure that the property, including roof space and any outbuildings (for example sheds, storage cupboards and
garage) and garden is cleared of all items and left in a clean and tidy condition. If it is necessary for the Council to clear any
items or clean up the property after you leave, you will be charged for this work.

FIXTURES AND FITTINGS…..

Provided by the Council must be left on the premises. Any fixtures or fittings you have added at your own expense may be
removed – provided that no damage is caused to the fabric of the building. Please remember that if you have replaced a
fitting that originally belonged to the Council, you must leave the new fitting behind in good working order or else replace the
Council’s original fitting. There may also be other work which is your responsibility that can only be identified after the
property has been vacated. In this case, any work deemed necessary will be carried out by contractors on behalf of the
Council, and full cost charged to you.

DAMAGES TO THE PROPERTY

As agreed in the Conditions of Tenancy, you are liable for any damage that has occurred to the property during the tenancy.
If you are in doubt about any part of the building or Council fittings and fixtures, please contact the District Housing Office.
You will be charged for making good any damage.

THE NEXT TENANT……..

Will be moving in very soon after you have moved out. That is why it is important that your keys are handed in on time. With
this in mind, will you please ensure that the property is swept throughout and that the sink, bath, washbasins and WC pan
are all cleaned.
