                       Introduction

This directory is a result of the efforts of many community
agencies and organizations in Avery County. First
envisioned by members of the Avery County Interagency
Task Force on the Chronically Poor in 1995, it was created
to address the lack of information on resources available in
the area. This unified effort underscores the maxim that

hand, an agency worker can help families access services
appropriate to their needs, and agencies can work together
to meet their goals and take action to fill gaps in services.

The Resource Directory was updated by the Interagency
Task Force in 1999 and by W.A.M.Y. Community Action and
a host of community agencies in 2003. The 2008 update
was coordinated by Avery Resources to Achieve Positive
Steps (RAPS).

It is hoped that the information contained within will help us
all do better jobs of supporting children and families in
Avery County.
