Higher National Certificate (HNC) Engineering
Are you interested in:
• Electrical & Electronic Engineering
• Operations Engineering (Instrumentation & Control)
• Mechanical Engineering
• Fabrication & Welding Engineering?

Are you working at technician level and seeking to improve your employment prospects?
Are you wanting to study locally and carry on working?
If the answer is ‘YES’, then this is the opportunity for you to achieve your goals.

North Lindsey College has delivered HNC programmes in Engineering for several decades with outstanding levels of
success (over the last 3 years, 90% of students have achieved a qualification). During the 2003 academic year this provision
was reviewed (inspected) by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. The report confirms confidence in the
academic standards achieved by HNC Engineering programmes. In addition, the quality of teaching and learning and the
quality of learning resources were judged to be commendable.

The majority of your study will take place in the North Lincolnshire Centre for Higher Education and Professional
Development (a dedicated learning and social facility at North Lindsey College for approximately 500 students). Practical
activities will take place in specialist workshop environments such as the Digiac computer resource; PLC facility, Project and
Control laboratories and materials testing equipment.

The course is delivered by experienced staff who hold a wealth of professional and industrial experience to enable you to
relate theory to practice. Local employer links are strong as a result of industrial placements, consultancies and the joint
college-employer forum.

What will you study?
The HNC Electrical & Electronic, Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, Fabrication & Welding Engineering programmes
are studied over a two or three year period. During their final year all HNC students are required to undertake an extended
project which offers the opportunity for a work-related investigation.

Where can you progress to?
For the majority of students, the HNC is the qualification most appropriate to immediate needs. You could, however,
progress into a BSc or BEng degree at most universities. Former North Lindsey College students have successfully
progressed to and graduated from the University of Lincoln, University of Hull, University of Loughborough and the Sheffield
Hallam University.

What will this cost?
Course fees for September 2009 will be:
• Year 1 £600 plus £165 Edexcel registration
• Year 2 £600

What are the entry requirements?
You will normally be required to have achieved the BTEC National/’A’ level/NVQ3 level qualification in a relevant subject area.
If you are over 21 years old with significant practical experience or craft qualifications, then your application would also be
