Discussion Styles
This measure reflects one way to classify communication styles. Nobles are
forceful and direct. Nobles use few words, says what's on their minds, and "cut
to the bottom line." Socratics believe in carefully discussing things before
making decisions. They enjoy the process of arguing points, spend a lot of time
on details, and are sometimes long-winded. Reflectives are very concerned with
the interpersonal aspects of communication. They are good listeners and don't
want to offend others. They would rather say nothing, or say what the listener
wants to hear, than offend the listener. This communication style model also
recognizes combinations of the styles: The Senator style is sometimes Noble and
sometimes Reflective. The Magistrate is a blend of Noble and Socratic. The
Candidate is a blend of Socratic and Reflective.
