					                            Lesson Plans – Music
                         Week of March 28-April 1, 2011
                              Monica Boudreaux
Kindergarten
Objectives: Sing on pitch a cappela. Pat a steady beat. Classroom concepts:
Short vowels.
Procedures:
    1. Sing the songs for the Kindergarten Program “EIEI OOPS”
    2. Discuss the instrument of the week (Saxophone) and demonstrate.
    3. Practice speaking parts.
    4. Review proper handling of a book, turn pages gently, pass nicely
    5. Sit students in a circle. Put a carpet square in front of each child. Put a
        stack of books in the center and have each student pick a book off the
        top of the stack, one child at a time.
    6. Play the song “It’s My Book” k8 Vol 13.3 #7. and have them look at their
        book. When I ring the bell, students will close their book, put it on the
        carpet square and slide it to the next person to their right.
    7. When they get to their original book, tell them to hug it and then they will
        put the books on the table, one at a time.

1st Grade
Objectives: Pat a steady beat. Classroom concepts: Proper nouns, Story:
Max Found Two Sticks
Procedures:
    Recite class poem … “Keep your hands to yourself…”
    1. Review proper handling of a book, turn pages gently, pass nicely
    2. Sit students in a circle. Put a carpet square in front of each child. Put a
       stack of books in the center and have each student pick a book off the top
       of the stack, one child at a time.
    3. Play the song “It’s My Book” k8 Vol 13.3 #7. and have them look at their
       book. When I ring the bell, students will close their book, put it on the

    4. When they get to their original book, tell them to hug it and then they will
       put the books on the table, one at a time.
    5. Continue working on music program entitled “Getting’ Down Again With
       Mama Goose”
    6. Discuss the instrument of the week (Saxophone) and demonstrate.
    7. Teach simple motions to go with each song to help aid in memorization.
    8. Review and continue with “Mr. E’s Musical Apartment”
    9. Before lining up, teach them the poem “Ready for the Hall” (My arms are
       hanging at my sides, I’m standing straight and tall. My eyes are looking
       straight ahead, I’m ready for the hall.
2nd Grade
Objectives: Sing with correct pitch and rhythm. Pat a steady beat Classroom
concepts: Identifying nouns/verbs, subjects/predicates
Procedures:
    1. Discuss the instrument of the week (Saxophone) and demonstrate.
    2. Review procedures and have students demonstrate.
    3. Discuss the term dynamics (elements of music) and the following terms
    4. pp p mp mf f ff, crescendo and decrescendo.
    5. Students will go to the tables and make a Dynamic Megaphone using a
        large sheet of construction paper, glue. Put the word “dynamics” on the
        middle, piano on the small end and forte on the large end
    6. Sing the song “Forte Piano” k8 Vol 13-1, using the megaphones.
    7. Sing Spring songs from the following: Sing a Rainbow (Share the Music)
        and “All Living Things (Share the Music)

3 Grade
Objectives: Sing with accurate pitch and rhythm. Classroom
concepts:Acrostic poems, flips slides and turns
Procedures:
      1. Discuss instrument of the week (Saxophone) and demonstrate
      2. Discuss the term octave (8 notes) and a C scale and also the Pentatonic
          scale (meaning 5 notes)
      3. Sing the Scale Song k-8 Vol 13-1 p. 7 to reinforce. .
      4. Sing Spring songs from the following: “Sing a Rainbow” (Share the
          Music) and “All Living Things (Share the Music)
4th Grade
Objectives: Identify the line and space notes of the treble clef staff.
Classroom concepts: Compound sentences using a conjunction or a
semicolon.
Procedures:
     1. Discuss the instrument of the week (Saxophone) and demonstrate.
     2. Explain the lines of the treble clef
     3. Sing “Caisson Song” from K-8 Vol. 12-5 p. 53
     4. Sing “ See You Later” from k-8 Vol. 13-5 p. 19
     5. Read from Mr. E’s Musical Apartment.
     6. Sing Spring songs from the following: Sing a Rainbow (Share the Music)
         and “All Living Things (Share the Music)
     7. Green Green Green and Spring Forward from K8 14/4
     8. Read from “Who Were the Beatles?”
5th Grade
Objectives: Sing with accurate pitch and rhythm. Classroom concepts:
Colons, semicolons and using quotation marks.
Procedures:
      1. Discuss the instrument of the week (Saxophone) and demonstrate.
      2. Sing “Caisson Song” from K-8 Vol. 12-5 p. 53
      3. Sing “ See You Later” from k-8 Vol. 13-5 p. 19
      4. Read from “Who Were the Beatles?”
