Istituto per la diffusione della lingua e della cultura italiana
Istituto Dante Alighieri
          Italian for foreigners

The “Istituto Dante Alighieri”, founded in 1923 and recognized by the Ministry of Public Education,
organizes Italian Language Courses for foreigners throughout the year in Mulan, Parma and Rome.

The “Istituto Dante Alighieri” is recognized and acclaimed in Italy and throughout the world and
ISO 9001:2000 certified.

The schools have modern, well-equipped classrooms with televisions, VCRs, cassette players and
overhead projectors.

The “Istituto Dante Alighieri” is staffed with highly qualified and dedicated professionals who are
always available to discuss individual problems and anything hindering the student’s progress.

Our didactic method is the result of many years experience
of teaching Italian to non-native speakers.
The approach is strictly communicative and the student is
encouraged to express himself while considering the linguistic
and grammatical characteristics of the Italian language.
The aim is to develop a broad range of skills, but in particular,
fluency of expression and grammatical accuracy enabling
the student to interact in situations both in daily life and
the working world.

An initial placement test, taken before the course begins,
establishes the student’s level of Italian.
At the end of the course, students are examined in
listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Upon successful completion of the examination, both
regular students and outside students who have paid
the required fee, are offered a “Certificate* of Studies”.

*The Certificates have been calibrated according
to the Common European Framework Levels
(A1, A2 - B1, B2 - C1, C2)

Milan
a modern city with an ancient history

Milan, active and elegant metropolis situated in the middle of the Padana Plains in northern Italy, is the
centre of High Fashion, Finances and the heart of the Italian Economy. Milan will host Expo 2005.
People from elsewhere generally think of Milan only as a large industrial city, but it offers much more than
this: as one approaches the centre, splendid palaces, churches and picturesque squares appear. Besides
the Cathedral in Piazza del Duomo and the castle “Castello Sforzesco”, Milan also delights its visitors with
all its museums, churches and public buildings which often unite the old to the new.

                                                Milan - Italian courses

The world famous “L’Ultima Cena” by Leonardo da Vinci, the Opera House “La Scala”, the numerous art
galleries: it’s all there, waiting to be discovered. In the city every kind of school and institute is present,
virtually covering every field of knowledge: from the renowned Conservatory "Giuseppe Verdi" to the
prestigious Brera Academy. Milan is the seat of some of the most prestigious Italian universities such as
Università Statale, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Bocconi-SDA, IULM and Politecnico.
Milan also has a rich calendar of events to cater for all tastes, be it cultural, recreational or sports; the city
certainly has something to offer for everyone.
The Milan school is located in the heart of the city, within easy walking distance from Duomo and a few
steps from the Castello Sforzesco, near the railway station (Stazione Nord – Milano Cadorna), and served
by two underground lines (MM1 and MM2) and other means of public transport.

Parma
              the little Paris of Italy

Ever heard of Napoleon’s wife Maria Luigia d’Asburgo and the Duchy of Parma? Heard of ‘The Charterhouse of Parma’ by Stendhal?
And even if your answers are in the negative you must have tasted a slice of Parma ham or a piece of Parmesan cheese or listened
to an aria of Giuseppe Verdi’s operas, Aida and Traviata perhaps!
These are only snippets of the history and culture of Parma, a town situated in northern Italy, in a province now known worldwide
as the Italian Food Valley, just a 1 hour drive from Milan, Bologna and Cinque Terre, a 2.5 hour drive from Venice and under two
hours from Florence.

                                                       Parma - Italian courses

The town: Parma is well known also for its elegance and its culture: the University with its famous Department of Agriculture and
Food Science, and other renowned Faculties such as Economics, Medicine, Engineering and Languages, the music Conservatory
where musicians, such as Giuseppe Verdi and Arturo Toscanini have studied and taught. The Accademia Barilla and ALMA International
Cuisine School are also of note.
The old town with its ancient monuments is also a natural shopping centre with elegant and trendy stores set amongst smart terrace
cafés and restaurants. The Parco Ducale and the Cittadella are two beautiful parks in which to relax and wind down.
Since 2007, Parma has been the seat of EFSA, the European Food Safety Agency of the European Union.
The province: In a 50 km range, from the flat plain of the Po river to the green hills and mountains of its province, you can find
clear traces of past epochs, treasures of great painters such as Caravaggio, Correggio and Parmigianino, medieval castles and
fortresses, and splendid examples of religious, military and courtly architecture.
Already famous in Roman times for its thermal baths, Parma has a wealth of spa amenities - from the purely therapeutic right through
to more elaborate wellness centres. A visit to Parma also offers the chance of a musical tour on the trail of Giuseppe Verdi (his house,
his theatre, etc.) and a gourmet tour visiting the producers of Parma ham and the real Parmesan (Parmigiano Reggiano) cheese.
The school: Istituto Dante Alighieri di Parma is situated in an ancient palace in the central street of Strada Repubblica, the elegant
and sophisticated heart of the town, where the residences still have captivating wide spaces and pleasant ambiences embellished
with marble and old frescos.
Parma is well served with train, buses and since 2010 with a “light” underground, but if you want to “live the town” and feel more
“Parmigiano”, the best means of transport is the bike, which you can rent from the municipal transport agency.

and poets?
It is the very essence of Europe; it is the Eternal City, eternally fascinating, eternally beautiful, eternally alive.
Elegant, joyous, vibrant in its night life, this is a city that breathes and offers unforgettable emotions,
