Contest and events!
by Rose and Tera
Hurray! It’s summer and we hope you are having a great time so far. We will be having our annual Bowling Party on
July 30th at the Strike Zone in New Bern. Please check with our office for the scheduled time. Hope to see you there.

Also, we do have some great contest going on this summer. One of our favorites is the Post Card Contest, we love
receiving cards to see where our patients have been on their vacations. Another is the T-Shirt Contest this is the
second year that we have had this contest and we love it. It’s great to see how creative our patients can be and “where
in the world” Dr. Rankin’s t-shirts have been. Due to popular demand we now have 3 different Book Bag Contests
drawings during the year. If you have any questions about any of our contest, check with the front desk.

Just a few reminders, if you come in for your appointment and the front desk is busy you can always “check in” at the
computer located to the left of the front door. Always remember you can go in the back and brush your teeth to have that
sparkling smile for Dr. Rankin and your assistant and don’t forget to ask your assistant for any supplies you may need.

new Patient RefeRRals
by Raean
I’ve met with most of you at your New Patient appointment which is the pleasure of my position. I’m often asked if
other children need a referral from their General Dentist. A referral is not required from their Dentist. If anyone has
any concerns of spacing, crowding, etc. please let them know they can call for a complementary New Patient Exam.
We also have Smile Passes at the front desk that you can share with your friends or other acquaintances and we’ll
THANK YOU for the referral. A smile is a gift to share with everyone.

a smile
Author Unknown
A smile costs nothing, but gives much. It enriches those who receive it, without making poorer those who give. It takes
but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that can get along without it,
and none is so poor but that he can be made rich by it. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in
business and is the countersign of friendship. It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad
and it is nature’s best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen for it is something that
is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as
none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.

Summer is here and I hope everyone has exciting plans. Make sure you send us a postcard from where ever
you go, for our contest. I would like to take a few moments to discuss an orthodontic emergency and what
to do if one occurs when the office is not open.
     • An emergency would be if something becomes loose, breaks, is poking, or an incident of trauma where the
patient is experiencing discomfort. If there is discomfort I would like to see the patient as soon as possible.
     • For an emergency you can always reach an assistant who carries our office cell phone. If she can not help
you over the phone or if you need to be seen she will call me, and I will call you back. If for some reason
you can’t reach someone just call me at home directly, I’m in the phone book.
     • Also, you can visit our web site at to see how to handle
certain orthodontic problems that sometimes arise.
     • Most other problems can usually be handled the next day or in the future in our office.

If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask anyone at anytime.
We look forward to seeing everyone soon.
