MYSTERY SOCIAL BUS TRIP – APRIL 24TH 2010 - Organised by Dulcie Artus and

be a social trip for the whole day with photo on the Tapu-Coroglen Road. 1½ hours were
opportunities, but not time to paint. scheduled here for a walk through the lovely bush
gardens and up to the waterfall for those who

where we were given access to the butterfly
house. This was fascinating and lots of photos
were taken, we may see butterflies in paintings of
the future. We were given a brief address from
the people who ran the butterfly house outlining
the life cycles and food the different species eat,
all very interesting.

The bus then took us just a few minutes up the
road to the Thames Society of Arts Gallery where
beautiful pottery, craft and paintings were on
display. It had been organised with the Thames
Society that the use of their kitchen facilities be
made available for making hot drinks and the food
was again supplied by the Committee.

The next stop was in the Karangahake Gorge at
Waikino – Con Kiernan’s Contemporary Mosaic
Art Studio. Con gave a talk about his mosaic
work with large pieces being on display in his
exhibition studio. He is a renowned international
mosaic artist and his work was wonderful. He
gave a very interesting and informative talk and
several people were inspired enough by his work
to give Mosaics a go.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by those who
went and some comments were, “ it was nice to
do something a bit different”, “fantastic”, “great
day out”, “best bus trip I’ve been on”, “when’s the
next one?”, “what a wonderful time”, “enjoyed
the great food”, “ what a lot of organisation went
into this”, “thoroughly enjoyed the whole day”. Of
course everyone had their favourite venue and
the weather was kind to us. It didn’t matter that we
were a bit late getting back at 5.30 pm as
everyone was still in “happy mode”.
