GROUP 02- System Dynamics Impiementation on a "Ticket Master"

       Our methodology is
       1-to make "system dynamics"research and "vensim software analysis" analysis,
       2-to identify the goal of our system dynamic implementation,
       3-develop a dynamic hypothesis explaining the causes and interrelations of every and each
       part of the whole system ,
       4-build a computer simulation model of the system at the root of the goal, test the model to be
       certain that it reproduces the behavior seen in the real world,
       5-devise and test in the model alternative policies that alleviate the problem if existing,
       6-Finally, implement the solution.
       For the last few weeks,we have been proceeding through these steps with reviewing and
       refining an earlier step. Currently, we are working on the 3rd step. We broke up the system into
       modules and assigned each person to 3 different modules. By this way we aimed to
       overcome the restriction of time by forming sub-groups and enabling easy interaction and
       meeting.

       *We've talked with the Chief IS Officer and one of the directors of Biletix Company for the
       feasibility of our project and taken consent from them.
       *We've discussed on our actual goal for the "Biletix simulation " and the steps for
       development for our system dynamics model.
       *We've analysed the Biletix Company, its structure and policy.
       *Each individual member of the group has been working on to improve her/his skills and ability
       to use the "vensim simulation model" by examining the vensim chapters and vensim help.
       *We've also supplied some books and found some sample models on internet and decided to
       work on the ones that are useful for our simulation model.
GROUP 03- Touristic Advisory System

       Team: B. Erül, E.Altınörs, V.Haleva, M.Can, Ö.Azar

       Touristic Advisory System aims to satisfy the need of its users to reach
       organized and updated data about touristic facilities, which will facilitate
       their decision making on where to make a holiday and on the relevant
       transportation means. It will reach a wide touristic data base which has
       integrated the available disorganized information, and come up with
       alternative recommendations derived according to the user's preferences.
       Up to now, we have:
       *Defined the specifications of our project: who will the system serve? what
       services will it provide? what tool will be used? what methodology will be
       used in reaching a solution set (complete enumeration)
       *Obtained a reference project (Touristic Advisory System, our [-Ozge and
       Bige-] Graduation Project, submitted in June,1998, which was not aimed to be
       a DSS, but only did matching upon the user's requirements and the available
       options. So, we are planning to make use of only the database of that system
       and the criteria defined in there)
       * Discussed on the System Analysis of the project :
         a) inputs and outputs of the system (not in terms of design, but in
       terms of content),
         b)database structure of the system
         c) initial commentary on the program overview- ideas on how to
       categorize the criteria, and how to build up similarity levels in between
       each record under one field, in order to enable the system to make shifts
       from the exact criteria selected by the users and come up with alternative
       solutions-.

       In the following ten days, we intend to:
       *Make more extended web and text search for,
         a) reference projects
         b) other information to be provided by the system.
       (by this search, we intend to gain additional idea on what else can be
       included and in what format it can be presented)
       *Complete the System Analysis Phase. And after its completion,
       *Start with coding and filling the database.
GROUP 04- E-commerce customer marketing search

      In order to create efficiency throughout to team and increase commitment we have applied
      some of the things that are means to that goal.

      As a Team we have divided our project into three sub-categories
      and assigned the members to them.
      The categories are :
        i) Theory Team
        ii) Application Team
        iii) Documentation Team

      i) Theory team searches the model components of our DSS in marketing concepts in order to
      create a realistic model to apply to our data.
      For that reason our searches are focused on literal aspects of the issue. Our team addressed to
      some authorities about the issue and also they had drilled down in the library to find relational
      information about the subject.

      ii) Application Team has dealt with the realization of the data storage and MIS plan in order to
      create a Data mining environment upon that. For that reason we have gathered the real time
      data by the help of SBS and IXIR and imported it to ORACLE server and installed and
      configured the Oracle Discoverer Tool upon these architecture. The next phase of the
      application process will be defining the report types in order to feed the model that will be
      defined by Theory Team. As an implicational approach we have planned to use SPSS in order
      to use the refined data according to the model that will be defined by Theory Team.

      iii) Documentation Team will document these two teams work in order to log them to use
      further advancements and to use them in possible debugging in the future.

GROUP 05 -Web Based Real_Estate Consultancy Sys.

       The Real Estate Consultancy System will fasciliate its users to find an
       accomadating solution satisfying thier needs, to keep their personal
       preferences in history files, to make overall conclusions and behavioural
       analysis about the whole sector and as a scalibilty feature we may include
       components to make our model become a database integrated home cultre and
       decision supportive consultancy portal.

       By helping to find a solution we mean: Getting inputs of criteria by the
       user, some priorities and constraints and seeking the database accordingly.

       By keeping history of preferences we mean: To define an account for the
       willing user and providing him/her the ability to make comparisons of
       current-past selections to find a personal tendency. (client-side storage)

       By behavioural analysis we mean to be able to group the cummulative data in
       a meaningful manner and making global queries on the system (like which
       income level choose which part of the city or more complex)

       By considering scalibility as the way it is mentioned above we mean to
       design the system so that it may integrate multiple databases from different
       environments and generating new services like home culutre, furniture
       selection if needed in the long run.

       So far..

       We have researced various resources to determine the type, content,
       relation, volume of the data to use, coordinated the team work
       (programming, designing, documentnig etc -in a flexible way), and gathered
       various ideas about the functionality of the system.

       Soon...
       We will start to realize the project and also a website for member and
       non-member use to follow the project timeline and resources will be
       available.
GROUP 06 - DSS for Graduate School Selection

       Team: İ.Gürel, N.Fidan, S.Ntelioglou, S.Uysal


       Our project aim was to develop a DSS for graduate
       students to help their selection of graduate programs
       and schools. For this reason we had to provide
       different criteria in our DSS tool that would in
       return direct students to the most suitable schools
       for them.
       During the last few weeks we've done the following:
       *We've had discussions on our project scope,
       recognizing our users, developing our project model.
       *We've done web search- collecting information,
       deciding on what criteria to concentrate on.
       *We've classified these criteria.
       *We've prepared a questionnaire to learn more about
       users' needs and their preferences. (How much
       importance do they give to each criterium? On which
       criteria do they focus on in their search?)
       *Questions we've discussed in our group included:
       Is the data we are after available? Fresh? Easy to
       access?
       *We've decided to divide our criteria into sections
       from general to specific. Since not all users want to
       get into detail, our model will enable users to select
       as many criteria as they want. At the end of this
       selection, several schools will be listed as
       appropriate. Then the user can provide his/her
       priorities among these criteria in percentages. This
       would change the order of schools in their
       appropriateness.
GROUP 08- Logistcs DSS

      In the discussion on tuesday we have gave a brief explanation about our project:
      Our project which aims to support the manager of a logistic company while he is trying to
      decide the path he is going to use while he is transfering a good from one to another.Because
      of the highly traffic jam in our city especially on the european side this decision rapidly changing
      due to the different time intervals of a day.We have divide the day in 6 or 7 time intervals and
      and also we have divided the european side into 10 points.For our system to work efficiently
      and realistic we have 10 points for our project because we want to be able to use data as real
      as possible.We mentioned we have some problems to find and store the data by theway this
      problems are going to solved soon.Nuri bey claimed that we must be sure who the user of the
      system and he also told that some differnt vehicles can be added to the system.We also
      mentioned the importance cost of a transfer will be also asked to the user .
      These aspects will be discussed in a week.

GROUP 09-Human Resource Consultancy

          What we did so far ???

           We divide our project into 5 phases. So far we have completed Preliminary İnvestigation and
           Analysis phase. During this period, we first made our project planning and then analyzed
           System components. As we had worked two other projects related to Human Resorce before,
           we have clear idea about Human Resource systems and their functionalities. But we decided to
           make further investigation and talked with Human Resource employers of
           PricewaterhouseCoopers. We asked them the criterias that they mostly use in employee
           selection process. Moreover, we searched the Web to get more information on criterias .Some
           of the sites that we surfed are : www.kariyer.com, www.monster.com, www.yenikariyer.com
           and www.yenibir.com.
             We succeed with analyzing user interfaces and discussed how to design screens,(their order)
           and how to make them more user friendly. Our next step will be System Designing (2nd phase)
           . This includes designing database (creating tables and relations) and user interface. We are
           planning to start coding on November 3th. Complete list of our project phases that we

GROUP 10 -Analysis and Predictions for Shopping on Internet

         Team: S.Sonar, M.Kocaoğlu, Y.Targu, S.Cesur

                  INTERNET AND E-COMMERCE HABITS OF BOGAZICI
                             UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
         Our project theme is the Internet shopping (e- commerce) habits and tendencies of Bogazici
         University’s students. For this research we decided to make a questionnaire. This questionnaire
         consists of a few subcategories. These subcategories are personal information, financial status,
         educational status, vacation habits, Internet and e-commerce habits and etc.

         This questionnaire will be filled online. Until now we have established a few questions. For
         deciding about the questions we used some excel files about recent researches related to our
         topic, (we get these files from Mr. Basoglu) and made some research on Internet about the
         recent researches and information about this topic. After getting some advises from our
         instructor Mr. Basoglu we will come to an end about the questions in the questionnaire and we
         will put the questionnaire on Internet.

         After collecting data we will try to reach some consequences about the Internet habits of
         students in Bogazici University. For this we will use some statistical methods and try to
         establish some relationships and correlations between our defined criteria (age, sex, education,
         financial status etc.) and the internet habits. We may also reach some advises for e-commerce
         sites about what to do or what not to do.
