Accomplishments:
   1) Monthly Statistics:
      Small Room: 5 with 18 attending          Teen Room: 5 with 10 attending
      Large Room: 8 with 93 attending          Adult Programs: 4 with 33 attending
      ICN’s: 0 with 0 attending                Children’s Programs: 8 with 196 attending
      Monthly Computer Use: 258

   2) Programming Snapshot:
      a) Youth Programs –Cathie Hass continues the Spring Wee Reads Story Hour
         averaging 8 kids and 4 adults weekly in the month of April. The Explorers met on
         April 2nd at the library and 9 kids and 4 adults were given a „behind the scenes‟ tour
         of the library, went on a scavenger hunt and got their pictures taken for a READ
         poster. The Explorer‟s program will wrap up in May for the year. Cathie continues
         outreach story hour to Kid‟s World and Head Start twice per month averaging 28
         children and 6 teachers at each story hour. On April 16th for National Library Week,
         the library hosted Children‟s Day with the help of a Decat Community Networking
         mini-grant. Families got free health screenings, parent resources, hot dogs, sodas and
         chips and a free magic show & balloon animals by Rick the Magician. Over 70 kids
         and parents attended the day and many took advantage of the free vision and dental
         screenings with 58 attending the magic show.
      b) Adult Programs –Computer classes continued this month with 2 classes on
         PowerPoint and Tips & Tricks with an average of 5 adults participating in each class.
         The Sit & Knit knitters have continued to come each Tuesday evening to knit in the
         reading area. On April 9th, National Library Week kicked off with a family history
         fair showcasing professional genealogists from Sac City and Des Moines who
         conducted online searches for the 8 participants who attended. Instead of the
         regularly scheduled Brown Bag Book Club, the library hosted an author talk for
         National Library Week with John Bruner of Fort Dodge who talked about his two
         books, “Me & Snap” and “Bonk” and encouraged participants to write down their
         own stories.

   3) Grants/Projects:
      a) State Library Accreditation –The application was submitted to the State Library on
         time and there was only one initial action item that needed to be corrected before the
         application was accepted. The pipes under the sinks in the women‟s and men‟s
         restrooms had to be wrapped for ADA compliance. Jerry‟s Plumbing wrapped the
         pipes and new pictures were submitted to the State Library to comply with that
         standard.
      b) Tree Request – Trees Forever has agreed to donate 3 trees to the library to replace
         the overgrown trees at the entrance removed by the city. They received funds with
         the stipulation that the trees must be planted on public property.
       c) GrantStation – A license for GrantStation has been requested for the library at a
           greatly reduced rate ($99 – retail is $599) from TechSoup.org. The special offer
           license is only valid for nonprofits and public libraries and can only be used in house
           (not for the public).
       d) CIP Funds for Carpet Cleaning – Quotes were obtained from 3 vendors to clean
           the carpets in the entire library. Jim‟s Janitorial in Lake City; Carpet One in Carroll;
           and Lisa‟s Janitorial in Sac City. All quotes include Scotch Guard and were based on
           cleaning approximately 3500 square feet of space.
    4) Staff Training/Development:
       a) State Historical Society Disaster Response workshop- Director attended this
           training hosted here at the library on April 15th. Director will begin working with the
           city to create a disaster response plan to be shared with the city police and fire
           departments.
    5) Advocacy/Outreach:
       a) Friends of the Library Spring Meeting – The Friends met on April 5th to plan the
           Spring Dessert Party with Helen Brown. The event will be held May 16th at 7:00
           p.m. at the First Christian Church in Sac City.
       b) Sac City Public Library Foundation Spring Meeting– The Foundation officers
           met at the library on April 20th to approve claims for the AWE Early Literacy Station,
           circulation desk computer replacement, Movie License USA license and HP projector
           that were funded by a patron in December.
