                   SECTION 09660 - RESILIENT FLOORING


PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 WORK INCLUDED

    A.   This Section specifies the requirements necessary to
         furnish and install:
         1.   Resilient sheet and tile flooring.
         2.   Resilient base.
         3.   Resilient stair, nosings, risers, and skirting.
         4.   Floor preparation.

1.02 RELATED WORK

    A.   This Section shall be used in conjunction with the
         following other specifications and related Contract
         Documents to establish the total requirements for the
         referenced resilient flooring:
         1.   Division 1 sections included in the project
              specifications.

    B.   In the event of conflict regarding resilient flooring
         requirements between this Section and any other
         section, the provisions of this Section shall govern.

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    A.   Installer: company with 3 years' minimum documented
         experience and approved by manufacturer.

1.04 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    A.   Store materials for 3 days prior to installation in
         area of installation to achieve temperature stability.

    B.   Maintain ambient temperature required by adhesive
         manufacturer 3 days prior to, during, and 24 hours
         after installation of materials.

1.05 SUBMITTALS

    A.   Provide the following in addition to the standard
         requirements with the Bid: product data on specified
         products, describing physical and performance
         characteristics, sizes, patterns, and colors
         available.

    B.   Provide the following within 2 weeks of Subcontract
         award:
         1.   Seaming plan.
         2.   Three samples, 6 by 12 inches in size,
              illustrating color and pattern for each floor
              material specified.
         3.   Three samples, 6 inches long, of base and stair
              material for each color specified.

1.06 EXTRA MATERIALS

    A.   Provide 25 square feet for each 500 square feet of
         flooring from same production run and 15 lineal feet
         of base and stair materials of each material
         specified.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS


    A.   Tile Flooring:    Armstrong.or approved equal

    B.   Rubber Flooring & Stair Covering Nora

    C.   Base Materials:   Roppe.or approved equal

2.02 MATERIALS - SHEET FLOORING

    A.   RF-1: homogeneous floor covering with backing;
         FSL-F-475A, all natural materials consisting of
         linseed oil, cork, wood flour, resin binders, dry
         pigments mixed and calendared onto natural jute
         backing. Pattern and color shall extend throughout
         total thickness of material; overall thickness
         0.1 inch.

    B.   RF-2: vinyl sheet with backing; FS L-F-475A, Type II;
         vinyl wear surface thickness of 0.05 inch, inorganic
         backing; total thickness of 0.08 inch; sheet width of
         72 inches; pattern and color to match.

2.03 MATERIALS - TILE FLOORING

    A.   RF-3 Vinyl Composition Tile: FS SS-T-312B, Type IV,
         Composition 1; 12- by 12-inch size, 1/8 inch thick;
         Imperial Texture by Armstrong.

2.04 MATERIALS - BASE

    A.   RB-1 Rubber Base: FS SS-W-40, Type I; rubber; 4
         inches high; 1/8 inch thick; top set coved, premolded
         external corners.

    B.   Base Accessories: premolded end stops and external
         corners of same material, size, and color as base.

2.05 ACCESSORIES

    A.   Subfloor Filler: white premix latex; type recommended
         by flooring material manufacturer.

    B.   Primers and Adhesives: waterproof; types recommended
         by flooring manufacturer.

    C.   Edge Strips: extruded or molded heavy-duty vinyl or
         rubber, of size and profile indicated. Color as
         selected by the Contractor.

    D.   Sealer and Wax:   types recommended by flooring
         manufacturer.


PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION

    A.   Verify that surfaces are smooth and flat with maximum
         variation of 1/8 inch in 10 feet, and are ready to
         receive Work.

    B.   Verify concrete floors are dry to a maximum moisture
         content of 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet or as
         acceptable to flooring manufacturer by testing, and do
         not exhibit alkalinity, carbonization, or dusting.

    C.   Beginning of installation means acceptance of existing
         substrate and site conditions.

3.02 PREPARATION

    A.   Remove subfloor ridges and bumps. Fill low spots,
         cracks, joints, holes, and other defects with subfloor
         filler.

    B.   Remove all paint, oils, waxes, sealers, and curing
         compounds not compatible with the adhesives employed.

    C.   Apply, trowel, and float filler to leave a smooth,
         flat, hard surface.

    D.   Prohibit traffic from area until filler is cured.

    E.   Vacuum clean substrate.

    F.   Apply primer to substrate surfaces.

3.03 INSTALLATION - SHEET AND TILE MATERIAL

    A.   Install in accordance with manufacturers'
         instructions.

    B.   Mix tile from container to ensure shade variations are
         consistent.

    C.   Spread only enough adhesive to permit installation of
         materials before initial set.

    D.   Set flooring in place; press with heavy roller to
         attain full adhesion.

    E.   Lay flooring with joints and seams in accordance with
         reviewed seaming plan.

    F.   Install tile to square grid pattern with all joints
         aligned with pattern grain parallel for all units and
         parallel to length of room. Allow minimum one-half
         full-size tile width at room or area perimeter.

    G.   Install sheet flooring parallel to length of room.
         Provide minimum of one-third full-roll width. Double
         cut sheet and continuously seal.

    H.   Terminate flooring at centerline of door openings
         where adjacent floor finish is dissimilar.

    I.   Install edge strips at unprotected or exposed edges,
         and where flooring terminates.

    J.   Scribe flooring to walls, columns, cabinets, floor
         outlets, and other appurtenances to produce tight
         joints.

    K.   Install flooring in pan type floor access covers.
         Maintain floor pattern.

    L.   Install flooring under movable partitions without
         interrupting floor pattern.

3.04 INSTALLATION - BASE MATERIAL

    A.   Fit joints tight and vertical. Maintain minimum
         measurement of 1/64 inch between joints.

    B.   Miter internal corners. At external corners, use
         premolded units. At exposed ends use premolded units.

    C.   Install base on solid backing.     Bond tight to wall and
         floor surfaces.

    D.   Scribe and fit to door frames and other interruptions.

3.05 INSTALLATION - STAIR COVERING MATERIALS

    A.   Install stair risers and stair nosing, one piece for
         full width of tread.

    B.   Install stair skirting configured tight to stair and
         stringer profile.

    C.   Adhere over entire surface.    Fit accurately and
         securely.

3.06 PROTECTION

    A.   Prohibit traffic on floor finish for 48 hours after
         installation.

3.07 CLEANING

    A.   Remove excess adhesive from floor, base, and wall
         surfaces without damage.

    B.   Clean, seal, and wax floor and base surfaces in
         accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
