THE WESTHAMPTON BEACH PERFORMING ARTS CENTER PRESENTS
Friday, August 6, 8:30pm
MARK O’CONNORS “HOT SWING!”
FEATURING FRANK VIGNOLA AND JULIAN LAGE
IN THE MOLLIE PARNIS AUDITORIUM

"One of the most talented and imaginative [artists] working in music - any music - today." The Los Angeles Times

Westhampton Beach, NY July 16, 2010: The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center presents

acoustic, progressive violin and Django-style guitar jazz played by Mark O'Connor and his Hot Swing
Trio featuring Frank Vignola and Julian Lang on Friday, August 6 at 8:30pm. Tickets are $60, $50, $40.

Mark O'Connor's “Hot Swing” captures the electricity and nuance of performances that can only be
described as 'spectacular. O'Connor's jazz performances and compositions pay tribute to his friend
and mentor, the legendary French jazz master Stephane Grappelli. While performing a number of
tunes closely associated with Grappelli, O'Connor's live performances extend the repertoire with
O'Connor's original compositions. Joined by guitarists Frank Vignola and Julian Lage, “Hot Swing”
continues to celebrate acoustic string jazz in new and exciting ways.

Mark O’Connor is a product of America's rich folk tradition as well as being a Classical and Flamenco
music student in his formative years. Mr. O'Connor's creative journey began at the feet of one of the
greatest improvisers in the history of the violin, Stephane Grappelli. Along the way, Mark O'Connor
absorbed knowledge and influence from a multitude of musical styles and genres. Now, he has
melded and shaped these influences into a new American Classical music, and is perpetuating his
vision of an American school of string playing with his very own O’Connor String Method.

Julian Lage plays a unique style of guitar that melds blues, classical, folk and jazz influences. His
musical wisdom, sophistication and wit are even more remarkable than his blazing guitar technique.
This child prodigy has received acclaim and recognition from musical luminaries such as Herbie
Hancock and Béla Fleck. Taking his place as an accomplished artist with a long career ahead, Julian
Lage looks at his future from the front rank of performers of his generation - a composer, guitarist, and
buoyant spirit who delights and inspires musicians and fans alike.

Frank Vignola is an extremely versatile jazz guitarist who has demonstrated that he is capable of
playing everything from fusion and commercial pop-jazz to hard bop, post-bop, and swing. Monster
player, composer and improviser, this native New Yorker has a wide variety of influences; everyone

from Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, and Pat Metheny to Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian has
affected his playing in some way. Whether he is featured on a Donald Fagen recording, a jam with
David Grisman, or as Les Paul's right hand man, he has proved himself to be in the elite creating his
own unique sound.
