Important : limitations of the program
1. The Measuring Scales ITP uses only whole numbers so is not suitable for demonstrating mixed units e.g 3kg 500g

2. Weights are only labelled as a whole number. Teachers will need to refer to fractions of a kilogram verbally.

3. Take care in the mass you choose when asking comparison/difference type questions. There is a limited number of each weight available and this means children
will be involved in exchanging. For example Try: scale 100 interval 1, find the difference between 52kg and 39kg by removing 39kg from a scale pan holding 1 x 50kg
and 2 x 1kg. The purpose of the task will effect your choice of mass for the children to work with.

Maximum scales and intervals in the ITP function section are suggestions only. Teachers should select appropriate scales and intervals for the ability of their class.
Activities are written as though the teacher is demonstrating but it is understood that pupils will be invited to add weights, hide pointers etc.
