As you move from preservice teacher to inservice teacher you will want to become involved with your
professional organizations. There are state and national organizations designed to help you grow and the
discipline specific groups will have information targeted for your field. Membership forms for your state and
national science/math teacher organizations are available on-line. You’ll notice that most have a discounted
student membership rate. As part of your membership you’ll receive their monthly magazines/journals, have
access to website resources and more. Both state and national organizations have conferences as well. If you
haven’t been to one of these conferences, considering going next year! Often times if you volunteer at the
conference you can get free or reduced rate registration.
