Primary Objective
Responsible for the teaching of woodwind/brass music programs in schools in Darwin and Palmerston, and other
instruments according to need. Deliver high quality instrumental music educational outcomes to beginner and
advanced music students, with the ability to conduct and establish school ensembles.

Context Statement:
NTMS is a school within Curriculum, Teaching and Phases of Learning, providing music education services to
primary and secondary government schools across the NT. These services include instrumental & choral tuition,
performance programs, VET in schools music programs, Indigenous music programs, Professional and curriculum
development. NTMS also has strong relationships with industry and the arts sector.
Key Responsibilities
   1. Provide high quality teaching of woodwind/brass instruments, at primary, middle and secondary school
   levels to meet the needs of students in accordance with the Music School’s mission.
   2. Develop and implement a primary, middle and secondary schools woodwind/brass program.
   3. Work collaboratively with music teachers in students’ client schools.
   4. Work in partnership with the Music School and client school communities, staff and parents to ensure the
   delivery of well balanced band programs.
   5. Provide a safe environment that will ensure the welfare and security of students.

Selection Criteria
    1. An ability to interact effectively with people from different cultures.
    2. Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the NT & Ochre Card (current or under application).
    3. A current NT Drivers license and access to a vehicle.
    4. A Bachelor of Music and at least a Grad. Dip.Ed.
    5. Proven high level performance and teaching skills for at least two woodwind/brass instruments.
    6. Ability to plan, develop and implement woodwind/brass instrumental programs at the school level, and
       conduct ensembles.
    7. Proven ability to teach collaboratively in a team environment, and ability to work independently with
       minimal supervision.
    8. High level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

    2. A comprehensive knowledge of contemporary and classical music styles.
    3. Knowledge of current and emerging national trends and strategies in instrumental music pedagogy.
