                                   REGULATIONS

The third Biennial Engraving Exhibition is being organized by Saint-Maur-des-Fossés local authority and takes place
from 12th May to 16th September 2007 at the Musée de Saint-Maur, Villa Médicis.

Its aim is to encourage contemporary engraving.


                     A – Place and dates

Article I            •The Biennial Arts Exhibition organized by Saint-Maur-des-Fossés local authority takes place
                       from 12th May to 16th September 2007 at the Musée de Saint-Maur, Villa Médicis.

                     • ACCESS : - RER (Express Metro) - Line A2, direction Boissy-Saint-Léger, station La
                                  Varenne/Chennevières.
                                - Motorway A4, exit Saint-Maur.
                                - BUS 111/112, stop "La Varenne-Chennevières RER".

                     •Exhibition rooms are opened to the public throughout the Biennial Arts Exhibition, from
                       Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from 11
                       a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. (free entrance).

               B - Techniques and theme

Article II     • participants should submit original engravings (black and white or colours) :
                 On copper (print, dry-point, mezzotint, etching, aquatint, soft ground ...), reduction block
                 imprint (xylography, on linoléum, ...), lithography, sérigraphy, monotype, carborandum, ...
                 and all traditional techniques of engraving, except works produced on any computer.

Article III    • Each work of art submitted should illustrate the theme : " Proximity and horizons ".

Article IV     •Each work of art submitted must have been created within the last two years (from January
                 2005).


               C - Participation

Article V      • This Biennial Engraving Exhibition is an international event, opened to all engravers.

Article VI     • No fees are chargeable to participants.

Article VII    • Each participant should imperatively dispatch or deposit 5 works, which should comply with
                 articles II, III, IV, VIII and XI.
               • Any work dispatched or deposited in no respect of conditions specified in the present
                 regulation is not accepted.

Article VIII   •Copies, reproductions and works previously presented in exhibitions or shows are not accepted.

Article IX     • Entries are judged and selected by a jury (cf. articles XV to XVIII).

Article X      • The jury reserves the right to accept all or part of works, nay none.
               • Any work selected is exhibited at dates mentionned in article I.


               D - Présentation of works

Article XI     • Works submitted must be put in a portfolio in good condition and appropriate format.
               • Each work must mention on the back in pencil and in block capitals : artist’s name, the
                 title, the technique, the execution date, and the price of the work in EUROS.
               • a label sticks on the portfolio must mention :
                        Surname,
                        Christian name,
                        Pseudonym,
                        date of Birth,
                        nationality,
                        address,
                        telephone number and mobile
                                                     2
                      e-mail of the artist,
                      titles,
                      techniques,
                      execution dates,
                      prices in euros of all works.
               •Maximum size of the work : 56 x 76 cm précisely (with an allowance of 2 maximum
                additional cm) . (1 work = 1 sheet)


               E – Deposit or dispatch of works

Article XII    • Works (deposited or dispatched) must absolutely reach the Musée de Saint-Maur, (address
                 and access stated in article I) between monday 5th and saturday 10th March 2007 from 11
                 a.m. to 8 p.m.
               • No work is accepted outside these dates and hours.
               • No work damaged in transit is accepted. (See article XI).
               •Works dispatched are done so at participants own initiative and cost (including return,
                 postage or shipment taxes).
                 For foreign dispatching current oversea postage rates is sent on request at the beginning
                 of 2007.
               •Works are only accepted if they are accompanied by the necessary amount of the return (in
                 french stamps or international reply coupons, postal order worded to "musée de Saint-
                 Maur").
                 No gift of work is accepted in exchange of the amount of the return.
                 In case of dispatching by any specialized company, the artist must also undertake all
                 necessary return procedures, as well as those for customs clearance for works coming from
                 abroad.
                 Works dispatched should be protected with sufficiently solid packaging to enable it to be re-
                 used for return purposes. This packaging must be marked with the same identification
                 required for the portfolio itself (See article XI), just as the list of works and their detailed
                 techniques.
               • A deposit slip is handed over or sent to the artist on reception of works. It is required to
                 reclaim them.


               F - Communication

Article XIII   • At the time of the deposit or dispatch of works, the artist supplies biographical elements or
                 any else necessary informations for the working out of the press file and catalogue, among
                 which a very short text explaining the interpretation of the theme.
               • The artists have to fill and to sign the authorization page 8 for the realization of the
                 catalogue, the promotion and the advertisement of the Biennial Engraving. This, in order to
                 allow organizers of this event to realize photographs or digitized images of selected works.

                G – Insurance and security

Article XIV     • Each participant is responsible for taking out appropriate insurance to cover works against
                  loss, deterioration, theft… which may occur during transport or dispatch.
                •Saint-Maur-des-Fossés local authority undertakes the responsibility for insuring the works of
                  art for the period of Biennial Exhibition, from receipt of works and until they are
                  redispatched or reclaimed, and declines all responsibility outside the stipulated period (see
                  article XXVI).
                         - For artists not selected the works are insured up to 3th june 2007, for artists
                           selected they are insured up to 30th September 2007.
                •Security is maintained, during opening hours of the exhibition, by the Museum personnel.


                H - Jury

Article XV      •The jury is composed of personalities from the artistic world, wich select the works, members
                  of the municipality and cultural departments of the town.
                • Members of the jury just as well as the entire staff attached to the Biennial cannot take
                  part in the contest.

Article XVI     • A selection committee is put in charge to choose the works judged of sufficient quality, in
                  showing innovative initiative in the field of traditional engraving.

Article XVII    • The jury’s assessments remain confidential, jury members being under an obligation of
                  reserve.

Article XVIII   •The jury’s decisions are final.
                • Participants can obtain the results of the selection from Tuesday 27th March 2007, by E-
                  mail or by telephoning to 33 (0)1 48 86 33 28.


                I - Prizes

Article XIX     • The Mayor of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés’s Special Prize, of the sum of 4 000 €, rewards the
                  work judged as the best one and only one, to any single artist.
                • Moreover, the prize-winning artist enjoys a personal exhibition to Ateliers d'Art de Saint-
                  Maur, in the year following the Biennial.

Article XX      • Three other prizes are awarded as following :
                              first prize :      2 300 €
                              second prize :     1 900 €
                              third prize :      1 600 €

Article XXI      • Saint-Maur-des-Fossés local authority reserves a priority right of purchase on works exhibited.

Article XXII     • The different prizes are distributed during the preview day, on Saturday 12th May 2007 at
                   4 p.m.

Article XXIII    • The members of the jury reserve the right not to distribute all the prizes.


                 J – Exhibition of works

Article XXIV     • The Curator of the Musée de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés and his staff frame the works and
                   determine their location, beyond dispute.


                 K – Sale of works

Article XXV      • In accordance with article XI, the price is shown on the back of the works.
                   The Museum staff is responsible for informing the public (if the artist authorize it) regarding
                   the name and address of artists but is not, under any circumstances, permitted to conclude a
                   sale.
                   Works sold cannot be removed before the end of the exhibition.


                 L – Reclaim of works

Article XXVI     • No work is returned on preview day.
                 • Works are collected at the Musée, in exchange for presentation of the signed deposit ticket :
                            - for artists not selected :
                              from Tuesday 27th March to Saturday 31th March from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.,
                            - for artists selected :
                              from Tuesday 18th to Saturday 22th September from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
                 • If works are to be reclaimed by a third party, an authorization, signed by the artist, is
                   required on top of a form of deposit.

Article XXVII    • Works which are unclaimed on the 7th October 2007, are dispatched at artist’s own
                   expense.


                 M – General clause

Article XXVIII   • Submitting works of art, implies the artist’s acceptance of all conditions stipulated in the
                   present regulations.
