Following provisions in the bye law may kindly be noted.

For those new members joining during the year:
a) During first quarter that is, from April to June— Initial Annual Subscription Rs 350 Plus Rs
50/- admission fees.
b) During the second quarter, that is, from July to September –Initial Annual Subscription is Rs
300 Plus Rs 50/- admission fees.

200/- Plus Rs 50/- admission fees.

                      A short write up on Probus Club of Chennai.

1.0 Introduction: The first Probus Club in the world was founded by the Rotary Club of
Caterham in England in 1968. Probus Club is an association of retired and semi-retired
persons who join together in autonomous clubs throughout the world. Each Probus Club
is sponsored by the local Rotary Club. We have over 4000 clubs all over the world –in
Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, USA, UK, South Africa to name a few with over 3 lakh
members.
1.1 Name: The name Probus Club has been coined from the first three letters of
Professionals and Businessmen.
2.Sponsor: The Rotary Club of Madras has sponsored the club. Rtn. S M Diaz IPS (Retd)
played active role in establishing the Club. The first President was Late Rtn. C R Sundaram

3.Date of establishment: 16-6-1992. It was originally Probus Club of Madras. It later
merged with Probus Club of Chennai.

4.Membership: Membership is not restricted to the two groups mentioned in para 1 above.
It embraces also former executives of govt and other organizations, and in fact, any one
who has had some measure of responsibility in any field of endeavor.
4.1. The Club has on its roll, members who have distinguished themselves in various
walks of life such as Chairman CTBT, Commissioners of Income tax, General Managers,
Vice-presidents of companies, managing directors, Chief Engineers, superintending
Engineers, executive engineers, Chartered Accountants, outstanding lawyers,
Educationists, Bankers, members of regulatory board, proprietors, financial analysts,
architects, and so on.
4.2. Membership Class: a)Probus Fellow, b) patron member c) life member d) annual
member and e) Honorary member.
4.2.1.Probus Fellow: Rs.15000/-
4.2.2 Patron members; one time subscription Rs.10000/-.
4.2.2. Life members: One time subscription--Rs 3000/=.
4.2.3. Annual members: Annual subscription--Rs.350/=.
4.3. Admission fees: Rs.50/- at the time of admission to membership.
4.4. ID Card: Members are issued ID cards, which is optional.
4.5. Cheques are to be drawn in favour of Probus Club of Chennai.

5.0. The basic purpose:
5.1. The basic purpose of the Club is to provide regular gatherings of those who in
retirement, appreciate and value opportunities to meet others in similar circumstances and
of a similar level of interest.
5.1.2. Emphasis is on the Club being:
5.1.2.I. Simple in structure
5.1.2.2. Free from the constraints and obligations of service clubs.
5.1.2.3 .Involve members at minimum cost.
5.1.2.4. Be directed, primarily to providing fellowship and opportunity for development of
acquaintance.
5.1.2.5. Seeking members who are compatible with one another.
6.0 Activities.
6.1. Holding monthly meeting with a business cum coffee session and address by a guest
speaker and discussion.
6.2. Visits to places and organisations of particular interest to members and occasional
social and sports activities.
6.3. Celebrating
6.3.1.International Elders Day in Oct each year
6.3.1.1 Honouring senior citizens who have contributed to the social welfare in a
remarkable manner.
6.3.2. International Women's Day in March each year.
6.3.2.1. Honoring women who have attained outstanding achievements for the welfare of
the community.
6.3.3. Children's Day in November each year.
6.3.3.1. Honoring students who have achieved excellence in sports/ studies etc.
6.4 Honoring members as part of the celebration of the International Elders Day:
6.4.1 Who are 75 years and above of age
6.4.2. Who have completed 50 years of married life.
6.5. Releasing publication containing useful information for the seniors on the occasion of
the celebration of International Elders Day every year.
6.6. Visiting old age homes.
6.7. Arranging picnics.
6.8. Honoring students who have shown special interest in the Elder Care.
6.9. Giving donations to institutions interested in the welfare of spastic children.
6.10. Publishing ―Probuzz‖--the monthly newsletter containing details of Probus activities.
