The 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise, Data Center, or Web Server with SP2, or
the 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Enterprise, Data Center, or Web Server. If you
are running Windows Server 2008 without SP2, the Microsoft SharePoint Products Preparation Tool
installs Windows Server 2008 SP2 automatically.

Note:
You must download an update for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 before you run
Setup. The update is a hotfix for the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 that is installed by the Preparation tool. It
provides a method to support token authentication without transport security or message encryption in
WCF. For more information and links, see the "Access to Applicable Software" section later in this article.

Generate New Key from this service application. This is necessary for Managed Metadata to work
properly. Also for BCS and ECS.




Start SharePoint Search Service on the Search Server
Create Search Service Application


Install Office web applications binaries on each SharePoint Server in the farm

Run the SharePoint configuration wizard, one server at a time, starting from the first server in the farm
Run SharePoint Wizard
Start Word Viewing and PowerPoint viewing services on the application servers
Create PowerPoint Viewing Service Application
Create Word Viewing Service Application

Install the latest Cummulative Update for SharePoint.
Install binaries on each server in the farm

Run the SharePoint configuration wizard, one server at a time, starting from the first server in the farm

Create SPN's as necessary for the SharePoint URL's and Server names


Create appropriate web applications for team sites and mysites. Use Kerberos authentication if necessary


Configure alternate access mappings


Confirm all service applications are associated with the web applications in the default group

For each web application, configure User policy and grant SP Engineering and support team appropriate
permissions

Configure Site Quota templates
Configure Outgoing e-mail settings. Add SMTP Server information and from e-mail address




Install SMTP Service on the server that will run incoming e-mail services.
Enable SharePoint farm to receive incoming e-mail


On the application server, start the user Profile Synchronizatio Service
Verify User Profile Synchronization Service has started properly
Verify access to User Profile Service Application

Configure User Profile Synchronization to go against active directory and start synchronization

Configure My Site Host. In the web application for My Sites, create a site collection at the root level that
is based off the MySite Host Template
Enable Publishing features on the MySite Host Site Collection
Create a subsite that is based off the Enterprise Search Center template
In the User Profile Service application, go to My Site Settings and set the default search page to
/SearchCenter/Pages




We need to set Idle Time to 0, so that it never times out
Enable Huge lists to be populated
Disable SPD access to each web application


Start the Activity Feed Job
Configure Social Data Maintenance Job to run every 5 minutes
Configure Social Rating Synchronization Job to run every 5 minutes
Disable My Site Cleanup Job
In the User Profile Service Application, My Site Settings, Publish Links to Office Client Applications. You
need to set at least one link for Office BackStage to work properly

Configure Trusted sites for Excel Calculation Services and trusted location for data sources

Configure Excel Calculation Services to allow inbuilt data sources and also open large files (100MB)


For the web application that will host team sites, create necessary managed paths
