                                         CALL FOR ACADEMIC POSTERS
You are invited to apply to present a poster at the 2010 Iowa Governor’s Conference on Public Health at the
Scheman Building in Ames, Iowa. This is a great opportunity to share your work with over 500 public health
professionals.
The conference is brought to you by the following partners:
Iowa Public Health Association Iowa Environmental Health Association
Iowa Counties Public Health Association The University of Iowa College of Public Health
Child Health Specialty Clinics University Hygienic Laboratory
Iowa Department of Public Health: Bureau of Family Health, Bureau of Nutrition and Health Promotion, Bureau of Health
Care Access, Oral Health Bureau, and The Division of Behavioral Health

A poster session is a graphic presentation and a great way to depict a public health program, research project, or community activity.
Students are encouraged to present the results of a health intervention/program, study, or report. Presentations might include pictures,
photos, charts, graphs, diagrams, and a small amount of text.

Complete papers cannot be posted. Handouts are useful. Printing of handouts is the presenter’s responsibility and should include the
title of the poster, a contact person, address, email, and telephone number. There will be no reimbursement of expenses for
presenting.

Poster materials should include the title of the presentation and the list of authors. Eight-foot tables with display boards will be
provided for the poster. The display boards are 8’ x 4’ and push pins will be provided to hang your poster. As there is limited space,
presentations will be accepted based on how well the content meets the theme of the conference “Prevent, Promote, Protect” and the
proposed objectives.

Poster sessions will be offered on both days of the conference – April 13 & 14. Presenters may choose to participate in one or both
days. However, conference registration will be waived for only one day of attendance. If presenters choose to attend both days, a
one-day conference fee is required.

Scheduled poster session times include: Tuesday, April 13, 10:30-11:00 a.m. and 12:30-1:15 p.m. and Wednesday, April 14, 10:15-
10:30 a.m. and 12:15-1:00 p.m. Conference attendees may view posters at other times during the conference, however, the “scheduled
poster session times” are when presenters should remain at their poster for discussion opportunities with attendees. Poster displays are
to be in place 30 minutes before the first scheduled time.

In Addition: The Planning committee has implemented a new opportunity for poster presenters to reach attendees! Each day of the
conference will offer a “Poster Roundtable” session at which presenters can discuss their poster information with small groups of
attendees for about 10 minutes. After each 10-minute period, attendees can switch tables to hear from another presenter. A one-page
handout is helpful during this roundtable, but full poster materials should remain at the poster site. This fast-paced session has a
limited capacity, therefore poster presenters who wish to participate in a roundtable must choose one day only – Tuesday, April 13,
2:30-3:30 p.m. or Wednesday, April 14, 9:15-10:15 a.m. Selections will be made by the conference coordinator on a first-come first-
served basis.

A limited number of spaces are available for this call for posters. Those who submitted poster applications through the open abstract
process do not need to reapply.

To apply for participation in the poster session, submit the attached application by March 8, 2010 to Sara Patkin by email to
mspatkin@yahoo.com or fax to (775)535-3821.
