You are invited to apply for the Zoar Harvest Festival Folk Art Show and / or Christmas in Zoar. The Zoar Community
Association, a non-profit organization, sponsors both festivals. Proceeds from the festivals are devoted to the restoration,
preservation and promotion of Historic Zoar Village.

About Historic Zoar:

Zoar was founded in 1817 when a group of German Separatists fled religious persecution and settled here in the beautiful
Tuscarawas valley of Ohio. They formed a communal society that lasted 81 years. The Society of Separatists of Zoar
thrived under this arrangement. They helped build the Ohio and Erie Canal, introduced unique furniture design and
architecture, and experimented with botanical practices.

In later years, dissent by younger members of the Society, who wished to own their own possessions, eventually brought
an end to communal life in 1898.

Today in Zoar:

Many of Zoar’s historic buildings still exist and can be toured. The Ohio Historical Society owns eleven museum buildings
and continues restoration on a regular basis; mostly recently the Zoar Hotel underwent a complete exterior restoration.
The recent development of the Ohio and Erie Canalway promises to bring even more visitors to Zoar along the old canal
towpath trail.

The Zoar Community Association, which sponsors these events, is a non-profit group with the mission to preserve and
promote Zoar’s history and culture. The Association has restored the Zoar Schoolhouse and, recently, the Zoar Town
Hall.

Other historic properties are currently private homes and businesses.

Zoar Harvest Festival:

This festival is a blend of events featuring a quality folk art show, a renowned antique show and sale, a variety of music,
entertainment, and food, and tours of historical Zoar buildings. Attendance at this event averages over 4500 persons
each year. Artisan booths are largely on Zoar’s quiet (and closed off for the festival) streets. A limited number of spaces
for food vendors only are located inside the Sewing House

Christmas in Zoar: This event features folk arts, holiday crafts, carolers and Christmas music, food, historical building
and home tours, wagon rides, and a tree lighting ceremony. Attendance averages over 2000 persons. All spaces are
inside Zoar’s historic buildings.
