ASKITWeb 2.0
System Requirements and Internet Explorer Settings

      Overview

ASKITWeb 2.0 is a web based application that is designed to be easily
updated. It runs exclusively through your Web browser to DSHS servers.
ASKITWeb 2.0 does not need to be installed on your PC.

ASKITWeb 2.0 is supported on Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 6.0 or
later. If you are using an older version of Internet Explorer, you will need
to upgrade your browser. You must also enable SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, Active
Scripting and Session Cookies in your Internet Explorer browser settings.

Your operating system must be Windows 2000, Service Pack 4 or later,
including Windows XP and Vista. If you are using Windows 2000 and do not
have Service Pack 4 installed, you must install the Windows 2000 High
Encryption Pack, available as a free download from Microsoft (Download
details: Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack (128-bit)).

For the best experience with ASKITWeb 2.0, we recommend you use a fast
Internet connection. Using a dial-up connection is not recommended.
ASKITWeb 2.0 is designed to frequently transfer information between your
computer, the ASKITWeb application web server and the KHC database
server. If you use a dial-up connection to the Internet, you may experience
longer waits for information and page refreshes.

The following pages provide information about 128 Bit encryption and
instructions for changing the necessary settings in Internet Explorer.

      Encryption

You must have 128-bit encryption installed on your computer. Encryption is
the ability to scramble the contents of a Web site so that no one else can
      see the information being entered.

To be sure you have valid 128-bit encryption, your operating system must
be at least Windows 2000, Service Pack 4 or later, or you must install the
Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack, available as a free download from
Microsoft (Download details: Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack (128-
bit)). Windows 2000 operating systems installed prior to March 2000 and
not updated to Service Pack 4 may not have 128-bit encryption in place.

Click on “Help” and then on “About Internet Explorer” to see your browser’s
      cipher strength (encryption level).

IMPORTANT: Even if your Internet Explorer software reflects 128-
bit encryption, Windows 2000 settings may override the browser
      encryption.

      Changing Internet Explorer Settings
If your system and browser meet the requirements mentioned above, you
will, most likely, not have to make any adjustments to your Internet
Explorer settings. However, for example, if your default Internet Explorer
settings do not allow active scripting, you will need to add
https://askit.dshs.state.tx.us as a Trusted Site under your browser Security
Trusted Zone settings, and then change the required settings only for the
Trusted Zone to allow active scripting for sites in the Trusted Zone.

      Trusted Site

      1. To add a trusted site, go to the Tools menu in Internet Explorer

      2. Click on “Internet Options”

      3. Select the “Security” tab and click the “Trusted Sites” content zone

      4. Click on the “Sites…” button.

      5. Trusted website addresses can be entered from this screen. Type
https://askit.dshs.state.tx.us in the text box labeled Add this site to
the zone: and click on “Add.” The site address should then move
into the list of web sites.

      6. You can keep the check-mark in “Require server verification (https:)
for all sites in this zone” if all sites you want to trust have the “s” at
the end of the “http” or if you do not want to put any other sites in
the trusted list. You can remove the check at any time if you want to
add sites that are not secured. The picture above shows the box with
             the check removed.

      7. Click “OK” to return to the Internet Options screen. Do not click the
final “OK” to close the Internet Options window yet, unless you do
not need to check the settings for the remaining items.

Continue to the next section of this document to begin checking your
      settings.

      6. Click on “OK” at the bottom of the security settings box.

Do not click the final “OK” to close the Internet Options window yet, unless

      Session Cookies

session cookies. To accept session cookies:

      1. Select the “Privacy” tab and click on the “Advanced” button.

      2. Either “Accept third party cookies” or “Always allow session cookies”
must be selected. To change the setting, click “Override automatic
             cookie handling.”

      3. Click “OK” to accept the changes.

Note: Should your local browser policy be set to not allow cookies, you
can enable cookies a specific web site:

      1. If needed, you can change the cookie settings for only the ASKITWeb
2.0 website by clicking on the “Sites” button instead of the
             “Advanced” button.

      2. Type askit.dshs.state.tx.us as the address of the website.

      3. Click on the “Allow” button.

      4. Click on “OK” to add the askit website to the list of websites that are
             always allowed to use cookies.

If you receive a privacy alert asking if you want to allow the
www.dshs.state.tx.us web site to save a cookie on your computer, check
“Apply my decision to all cookies from this Web site” and click on the “Allow
      Cookie” button.

      Other useful technical information

Because the screens within ASKITWeb could change slightly at any time, it’s
best to have your internet software set to refresh on each visit to a page to
ensure that you are always seeing the latest version. Your browser should
be set to check for newer versions of stored pages: “Every visit to a page”.

To check how often you are refreshing pages, click on the “General” tab and
the “Settings” button. “Every visit to the page” should be selected.

Click on “OK” to close the Internet Options dialog box.

Your Internet Explorer web browser is now ready

                        to work with ASKITWeb 2.0!
