    POST TITLE:                                Word Processor Operator/Typist/Data Input Clerk

    AIM OF JOB:                                To provide an efficient and effective typing, word
                                               processing and data input service for the division


CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POST

As part of the group working concept the post may be required to undertake a wide variety of tasks
including general typing/ data input and general clerical work.

Supervision will depend on where the post is located. Lines of responsibility will be identified by the
Divisional Administration Manager.

Tasks may be undertaken by post holders with assistance of either computer equipment or electronic
typewriters.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

▪    To undertake general word processing duties including the typing of reports, letters, memoranda
     etc.

▪    To undertake shorthand dictation, including taking minutes at meetings as may be required.

▪    To undertake audio typing duties as required.

▪    To undertake photocopying duties as required.

▪    To undertake data inputting duties as required e.g. relating to the overtime monitoring system.

▪    To ensure the proper storage of data.

▪    To deal with telephone enquiries as required.

▪    To undertake general clerical duties as required.

   To ensure compliance with statutory requirements in relation to information management
    including the Data Protection Act 1998, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Code of
    Practice on Management of Police Information 2005, as appropriate.

   To comply with the requirements of GMP's policies on Drug and Alcohol testing –
    requirements in respect of specific posts/ roles are described in the policies which are
    available on the Force Intranet

▪   To promote and comply with GMP's policies on equal opportunities and health and safety both in

    process with your manager.

▪   To carry out such other duties which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading of
    the post.
