					         Jennifer Thigpen – Room 303                Week of August 9th to August 13th

Lesson Plans for English IV On-level

Day 1 – The teacher will distribute the classroom syllabus and discuss class expectations and routines for
the school year. Syllabus should be signed by parent and turned in by Friday.

Day 2 – Students will be given a poem entitled “About School” which they will read, then respond to in
journal format for the teacher to collect.

Day 3 –The students will read, analyze, and discuss several Anglo-Saxon riddles. The students will then
write 3 original riddles to turn in to teacher.

Day 4 –The students will read some historical background information on the Anglo-Saxon period and will
       complete a question sheet correlating to the information. (SLU Dual Enrollment workshop)

Day 5 – In the lab, students will complete a trading card containing information from their summer reading
novels. Teacher will assign workbooks and textbooks.


Lesson Plans for English IV Honors – SLU Dual Enrollment

Day 1 - The teacher will distribute the classroom syllabus and discuss class expectations and routines for
the school year. Syllabus should be signed by parent and turned in by Friday. In addition, the teacher will
distribute applications for the SLU dual enrollment course.

Day 2 - Students will be given a poem entitled “About School” which they will read, then respond to in
journal format for the teacher to collect. The teacher will distribute a handout explaining all journaling
instructions.

Day 3 – The students will read, analyze, and respond to chapter 1 of The Glass Castle. The teacher will
distribute a letter writing assignment, which will correlate to either novel for their summer reading
assignment. The letter will be due on Tuesday of next week.

Day 4 – The students will work on their letter writing assignment the entire class period. (SLU Dual
        Enrollment workshop)

Day 5 – The students will take a short answer test on The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
The students will also turn in their summer reading journals for assessment.

Lesson Plans for Film and Literature

Day 1 – The teacher will distribute the classroom syllabus and discuss class expectations and routines for
the school year. Syllabus should be signed by parent and turned in by Friday. The teacher will then
distribute a review of Toy Story 3. The students and teacher will discuss any summer movies that were
noteworthy of praise or critical review.
Day 2, 3, 4 – The students will watch “The Count of Monte Cristo.”

Day 5 – The students will read several various reviews on the film first. The teacher will then give the
students a handout on formatting of a film review. The students and teacher will discuss the important
elements of a film review in preparation for writing their own.
