                                                                                    Some 80 members and supporters of the Hawkesbury River Dragon
                                                                                    Boating Club were thrilled when their first dragon boat arrived at Parsley
                                                                                    Bay, Brooklyn, on Sunday 27 February 2011.
                                                                                    The boat holds a crew of 22, and 51 ‘paddlers’ had their opportunity to test
                                                                                    out ‘the dragon’ in a series of test runs on the picturesque Hawkesbury
                                                                                    River. A barbecue was held on site to celebrate the occasion.
                                                                                     The boat is leased to the Hawkesbury River Dragons by Dragon
                                                                                          Boat NSW and the club is now looking for a sponsor.
                                                                                    The newly formed club came into being when a steering committee was
                                                                                    formed on Friday 28 January to determine the arrival and storage of a
                                                                                    boat, dates for the official launch and the first AGM.
                                                                                    “The official launch of the club will be held on Sunday 10th April 2011.
                                                                                    All ages and fitness levels can participate and prospective members are
                                                                                    welcome to attend,” said Chairman Peter Davis.
                                                                                    Joining in the celebration was Peter’s pet K9 and club’s mascot, Chelsea,
                                                                                    a cross Kelpie and Border Collie, who took to the water to welcome ‘the
                                                                                    dragon’ on its return to shore from the test runs. There are over 50 clubs in
                                                                                    NSW and growing fast. The sport is adrenalin pumping, great for fun and
                                                                                    fitness and meeting new friends.

                                                                                                                                    the future to share with people. Visitors will have opportunities to meet

award was Susan Hunter for her
ongoing service to Zonter Project of

distributed to Third World countries,
thus saving the lives of mothers and
their newborn babies. Her current
major Community Service is to

                     The 2011 Premier’s Reading
                     Challenge is open to all NSW
                         students in Kindergarten
                           through to Year 9, in

                        The Premier’s Reading Challenge
is a challenge to each student to read. The program
aims to encourage students to read for pleasure &
to enjoy their reading.
The challenge runs from 1 February to 1 September
each year.
All students who successfully complete the challenge
receive a challenge certificate, signed by the Premier,
and their names are published in an honour roll. After
four years completion, students receive a gold certificate.
Students who complete the challenge continuously from
Year 3 to Year 9 are awarded a Premier’s medal.

PARENTING SKILLS
Labor MLC Greg Donnelly and Minister for Community Services, Linda
Burney are inviting Korean families in Hornsby to participate in the NSW
Government’s Triple P (Positive Parenting Program).
Triple P caters for all families, with the NSW Government focusing on providing
the program to families with children aged three to eight years.
“This internationally acclaimed program, developed in Australia, aims to
enhance the knowledge, skills and confidence of parents so that they can give
their children a good start in life,” Greg Donnelly said.
A Triple P seminar for Korean families led by a bilingual practitioner, will begin
in Hornsby on Wednesday, 16th March 2011.
“The seminar is free-of-charge and a wonderful resource, so I encourage all
Korean parents to consider attending”, said Greg Donnelly.
