“This is War”

Continuation of scene from “You Have a Choice” of Richard telling Jack that he is the one who will „save us all‟. Jack sits in shock and confusion. JACK: “…I‟m not, lying in the shadow of some statue…I‟m here. What do you mean, I‟m going to save us all?” RICHARD: “You may find this very hard to believe, Jack, after all, but blowing up that bomb wasn‟t your destiny. That was Juliet Burke‟s destiny, Jack.” Kate interrupts. KATE: “How did Juliet detonate the bomb? She fell almost a hundred feet down that well.”
RICHARD: “Kate, as you may have noticed with Mikhail and even John Locke, the island will not let you die until your destiny is fulfilled. When Juliet fell, her work was not yet done, so she didn‟t die until it was.” KATE: “But…” Jack interrupts. JACK: “Look, enough with this. If Richard says he knows my destiny, then I want to know what it is. So, Richard…What is my destiny?” Shots of Sayid, Sawyer, Hurley, Claire and Kate, with looks of anticipation on their faces. The camera turns back to Richard. RICHARD: “Jack, your destiny is to end the war. Your destiny is to kill Esau. LOST TITLE CARD
Act Two We return to the meeting inside the temple. BEN: “I ask again, Richard, if Jacob can‟t even kill Esau, what makes Jack so special?” RICHARD: “I would like Jack to come with me, please.” Jack looks to Kate, who nods, telling him to go with Richard. Richard leads Jack out of the room. JACK: “Where are we going, Richard?” RICHARD: “I want to show you something, Jack.”
Richard leads Jack to the lower level of the temple into the same room where the smoke monster judged Ben in „Dead is Dead‟. Richard leads Jack to a glyph on the wall. JACK: “What do these pictures have to do with anything?” Richard points to a specific glyph on the wall. RICHARD: “Jack, this glyph is sort of, a prophecy. A prediction, if you will. It says that a man, a healer or doctor, of great strength and leadership, falls out of the sky and saves this island and restores its power back to Jacob.” Jack chuckles, and begins to walk away. RICHARD: “Where are you going, Jack?” Jack turns around just before walking up the stairs. JACK: “It‟s a picture, Richard. It‟s just a picture. It was probably carved by some nutcase ancient Egyptian. I‟m done with destiny, Richard. I‟m going to lead my people back to our camp, and there‟s nothing that you can do to stop me.” RICHARD: “Why do you need to go back to your camp, Jack?” JACK: “Because that‟s where I‟ll start planning on how to get my people off this island.” Cut to 1977, where Miles sits with Chang after the operation to save Miles after he was shot. CHANG: “That‟s ridiculous, Miles. How could your people be in the future?” MILES: “Dad, I know enough about this island to know that my people got back to where they came from. I need to get back there, Dad.” Chang looks disappointed. CHANG: “Are you sure about this, Miles?”
MILES: “I‟m as sure as I‟ve ever been. Dad, I need to go.” CHANG: “Where are you going to go, Miles? You got out of surgery an hour and a half ago.” MILES: “I‟m going to find the hostiles.” Shot of Chang‟s confused face as the scene ends. Act Three Jack and his people are walking through the jungle on their way back to the camp. Sun and Jin are shown holding hands. SUN: “Jin…I‟m so happy that we could be together again. I thought I‟d lost you. JIN: “Sun, I‟ll never leave you. But I meant to ask you something.” SUN: “Anything.” JIN: “How is our child?” Sun smiles ear to ear. SUN: Ji Yeon is a healthy girl. She‟s beautiful, Jin.” Jin smiles. Sun puts her hand in her pocket, and upon feeling them, she remembers that both the DS ring and Jin‟s wedding ring are in her pocket. She pulls the wedding ring slowly from her pocket. SUN: “Ben gave this to me, Jin.” She hands him the ring. Jin immediately puts it on, smiling. SUN: “I‟ll be right back, Jin. I have something to take care of.” Sun catches up to Claire, who is near the front of the group. SUN: “Claire!” Claire looks back and waits for her to catch up.
CLAIRE: “Hey, Sun. What‟s up?” SUN: “I found something in Aaron‟s cradle. I think Charlie left it for you.” Sun hands her the DS ring. Claire holds it in her hand, and a tear falls onto it. She hugs Sun. CLAIRE: “Thank you so much for finding this, Sun. It means a lot.” Sun smiles, and the camera now focuses on Jack and Kate, who are leading the group. JACK: “Kate, we need to talk.” KATE: “About what?” JACK: “Kate…I‟ve made a lot of mistakes…I let you down…You and Aaron. And I want to fix it, Kate…… I want you back.” Kate looks him in the eye. KATE: “Jack… That‟s the problem. You‟re always trying to fix everything…” Jack interrupts her. JACK: “That‟s what every single person on this island tells me. But Kate, this is something that I can fix.” KATE: “Jack…I‟ll always have something for you…But right now, I just…I need to know where this is coming from, Jack. Why now?” JACK: “Because, Kate, the second before that bomb blew us up…The second that that light started to come out of the well and consume us, we looked each other in the eyes. And in that moment, our whole relationship…As friends, and as us together, it flashed before my eyes…And in that moment, I realized something… I’m still in love with you.” Act Four
Miles gets out of a Dharma van, and deactivates the pylons. He looks back at his father, who is in the drivers‟ seat. He gives a wave to Chang, and walks through the pylons. Chang drives away, and Miles reactivates the pylons. He enters the woods. He is seen walking for a length of three whole minutes before many guns are heard cocking. Richard Alpert emerges with a pistol. RICHARD: “Who are you?” Miles pauses. MILES: “I was with the physicist who came here for the bomb…The one you killed.” Richard pauses, remembering the day. RICHARD: “And why are you here?” Miles walks closer to Richard. MILES (Quietly): “After the explosion, my friends…They just, disappeared. They were gone. And I was the only one here. I think they‟re back in the future. And I need to get to them. What am I supposed to do?” Richard thinks for a moment. RICHARD: “There‟s only one man who can help you, but I doubt he‟ll see you.” MILES: “Look, eyeliner. Whoever this guy is, just take me to him. I need to be back with my friends. There‟s nowhere for me here.” Eloise emerges from the bushes. ELOISE: “I‟ll take you to Jacob.” Miles looks to Eloise. MILES: “Jacob? Alright, then. When do we leave, Barbie?” RICHARD (To Eloise): “You‟re just going to take him, no questions asked?”
ELOISE: “No questions asked.” Eloise and Miles are seen walking down the beach. MILES: “Who are you? Why did you just agree to take me, anyways?” ELOISE: “My name is Eloise Hawking. I am Daniel‟s mother. I‟m pregnant with him right now. And I agreed to take you, because I just killed my own son, and you‟re the only person who would take a walk with me.” MILES: “Well, I‟m glad I could be of assistance. But, if you‟re Dan‟s mom, why would you just kill him?” ELOISE: “You think I knew who he was before I put a bullet in his back? He had a gun to Richard, and I wasn‟t going to let him do anything stupid.” MILES (Smart-Alec): “But if you did know…” Eloise interrupts. ELOISE: “We‟re here.” Miles looks up to see the foot of the statue. MILES: “Uh, cool foot. So, where‟s the rest of it?” ELOISE: “We had a run in with the U.S. Army, just before you and your friends appeared to examine the bomb. Yet here you are, same age. Anyways, the military…they called in an air strike on the island. They hit the statue, and it was destroyed.” MILES: “Alright, then. But what does this have to do with this guy…Jacob, is it?” ELOISE: “Walk up the stairs on the other side of the statue. Walk three paces at the top of the stairs, and turn to your left. Give the wall a push, and tell Jacob I said hello.” MILES: “Uh, you won‟t be coming in?” ELOISE: “No. You‟re lucky you are even going in.”
MILES: “Alright then.” Miles walks to the other side of the statue and up the stairs. He pushes the wall and it moves inwards, opening into the lair. MILES (Quietly to himself): “Whoa…Sweet.” He cautiously walks in, looking around. VOICE: “I‟ve been expecting you.” Miles looks over to see Jacob. MILES: “And you‟re Jacob?” JACOB: “I am. How can I help you, Miles?” Miles is a bit confused, but continues. MILES: “My friends…Are they, back in the future?” JACOB (Smiling): “How‟d you know?” MILES: “I had a hunch.” JACOB: “Very well, then. What about it?” MILES: “Why am I not with them?” JACOB: “I believed that you were meant to stay in this time period.” MILES: “I want to be with them.” Jacob thinks. JACOB: “I believed that you were meant to do something important here, in 1977…But are you sure this is what you want?” Miles stops to reassure himself. MILES: “Yeah, dude. I wanna go…It doesn‟t matter that my dad is here. I know I wasn‟t meant to know him well.”
JACOB: “Very well, Miles Straume.” Jacob approaches Miles. He looks him in the eye, and touches his hand to his forehead. A bright light begins to engulf Miles as it did to Flocke/Esau in „In Rectus Os‟. The light disappears. Miles is gone. Miles wakes up in the lair in 2007. Jacob is nowhere to be seen. MILES (To himself): “Guess that snake-looking bastard got me back.” He walks outside. It‟s late afternoon/early evening. Someone walks out of the woods. Miles is shocked. The camera reveals none other than Juliet. (Miles does not remember, but Juliet/AKA Esau/Smokey, shot him in ‟77). MILES: “You‟re…You‟re alive?” JULIET: “Hey, Miles.” Shot of Miles‟s shocked, frowning face. LOST
