1. Asbtract:

Write a brief summary of the lab. (Aim, Procedure, Results)

2. Lab Outline:

The objective of this experiment was to familiarize oneself with the various modes of measurement
of an oscilloscope. The lab had two parts to it:
        Part I – involved phase-shift measurement of an RC circuit using the X-Y mode and the Y-T
        mode of the oscilloscope. The measured results were compared with calculated results,

       Part II – involved measurement of the I-V characteristics of a zener diode.

       Part I
        1. Cutoff Frequency (Equation & Calculation )
        2. Phase-shift (Equation & Calculation- for 1 freq)
       Part II
       1. What is a zener diode?
       2. Show I-V Characteristic of an ordinary diode. (Reference)
       3. Show I-V characteristic of zener diode. (Reference)

       See the lab instructions. Update the model #’s for the scope and the function generator.
6. Lab procedure
       Part I : Phase-shift Measurement of an RC Circuit
       (Example: An RC circuit was constructed and driven by a function generator. Describe the
       input signal – amplitude & frequency). Show circuit assembly and diagram. Label the
       input/output clearly if you are using your own pictures/diagrams.
       See detailed procedure in Appendix 1 (optional)

       Part II : I-V Characteristics of a Zener Diode
       (Follow the example of part I)
       See detailed procedure in Appendix 2 (optional)


7. Results
       Part I: Phase-shift Measurement of an RC Circuit

       (i) Phase-shift measurement using the Lissajous figure – X-Y Mode
             Show screen shot of ONE Lissajous Figure from your experiments
            Number and caption the figure.
            Include details like: at what frequency was the measurement made etc.
       (ii) Phase-shift measurement using the Y-T Mode
            Follow steps outlined in (i) above
       (iii) Tabulate the results from (i), (ii) and pre-lab calculations. Number and include a
            heading of your table.

       Part II: I-V Characteristic of a Zener Diode

       (i) Show screen shot of ONE I-V Characteristic (1 voltage, 1 frequency). Explain the figure-
       CH1 x-axis, CH2 y-axis, identify the zener voltage etc.
       (ii) Describe your observations as you changed the input voltage and frequency.
