Rihanna photo leaked actually refers to two different sets of photos, each leaked at different times over the past few weeks (Spring of 2009). The first set of leaked photos are the ones showing the singer's face brutally scarred after an alleged altercation with then-boyfriend Chris Brown on the night of the 2009 Grammy Awards. The photos first showed up on the gossip website TMZ about ten days after the alleged assault. Since then, the pictures have been reprinted numerous times, despite threats of lawsuits from unnamed sources as well as privacy issues. There has been a great deal of talk about who actually leaked the photo. Some say Rihanna's privacy rights as an abuse victim were violated with the publication of the photo. The LAPD embarked on an internal investigation that could result in someone losing their job, so says the rumor mill. Citing a TMZ insider, TheMediaBuffet.com claims TMZ paid $62,500 for the photo. TMZ is known to pay top dollar for assorted items, having been alleged to have paid $165,000 for an audio tape of the Las Vegas hotel room confrontation between O. J. Simpson and his posse and two memorabilia dealers. That figure was later retracted and TMZ is said to have paid $150,000. The other Rihanna photo leaked refers to 7 nude or semi-nude pictures that appears to have been taken by Rihanna herself, using a cell phone and her bathroom mirror. It's not clear whether Rihanna really is the woman in question because her face is not seen in the nude shots. However, she is clearly pictured in two fully clothed pictures. According to TMZ, the legal department at Rihanna's label, Island Def Jam Music Group, sent a letter to at least one website that published the photos. The letter refers to "unauthorized photos purported to be...Rihanna," demands that the photos be removed from the site, and calls the photos a violation of "the Artist's rights." Some has accused her ex, Chris Brown, of leaking the pictures, but he has denied any involvement. His representatives have called the charges "false and defamatory," and say that "Chris has not released or 'leaked' any photos of Rihanna (or anyone else for that matter)." One of the photos is of someone who looks like Brown with panties on his head.
