					4200 SERIES SLIDING PATIO DOOR SPECIFICATION

NOTES TO SPECIFIER:
 THIS SPECIFICATION HAS BEEN CREATED TO ASSIST SPECIFICATION/ARCHITECTURAL
PROFESSIONALS IN THEIR PROJECTS. THIS SPEC IS FOLLOWING THE MASTER FORMAT
2004 GUIDELINES AND REVISIONS AS OF 6/2009 AND MAY BE USED WITH MOST MASTER
FORMAT SPECIFICATIONS WITH LIMITED EDITING.

EDIT CAREFULLY TO MEET PROJECT REQUIREMENTS. MODIFY, OR DELETE AS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.02   SUBMITTALS

       A. Reference Section 013300Submittal Procedures; submit following items:
          1. Product Data.
          2. Shop Drawings: Include door schedule, door elevations, sections and details, and
              multiple unit assembly details.
          3. Samples:
              a. Color samples: Minimum 1 x 4 inch (25x100 mm) samples of PVC with integral
                   color.
              b. Glass, showing specified tint color.
          4. Quality Assurance/Control Submittals:
              a. Qualifications: Proof of manufacturer’s qualifications.
              b. U-Factor and structural rating test data.
              c. Manufacturer’s Installation Instructions.

       B.   Closeout Submittals: Reference Section 017800Closeout Submittals; submit following
            items:
            1. Temporary labels marked to identify doors that labels were applied to.
            2. Maintenance instructions.
            3. Special Warranties.

1.03   QUALITY ASSURANCE

       A. Overall Standards: Comply with AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440-05, to meet SD-
          LC25 grade except as otherwise noted herein.

       B.   Qualifications:
            1. Manufacturer Qualifications:
                a. Minimum ten years experience in producing vinyl doors of the type(s) specified.
                b. Certified Manufacturer by AAMA, and NFRC.

       D. Certifications for Vinyl Sliding Glass Doors:
          1. AAMA: Doors shall be Gold Label certified with label attached to frame per AAMA
               requirements.
          2. NFRC: Doors shall be NFRC certified with temporary U-factor label applied to glass
               and an NFRC tab added to permanent AAMA frame label.

1.04   DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

       A. Reference Section 016600Product Storage and Handling Requirements.

       B.   Follow manufacturer’s instructions on label applied to doors.

1.05   WARRANTY
SELECT “RESIDENTIAL” WARRANTY BELOW FOR OWNER OCCUPIED SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL;


SELECT “COMMERCIAL” WARRANTY FOR NON-OWNER OCCUPIED CONDOMINIUMS, COMMERCIAL, AND MULTI-FAMILY

       A. Residential Special Warranty:
          1. Lifetime guarantee to original owner.
          2. Transferability:
              a. Permit unlimited transfer of ownership in first ten years.
              b. Upon transfer of ownership, guarantee period shall become ten years from date of
                   original purchase.
          3. Guarantee doors against defects in materials and workmanship including costs for parts
              and labor.
       A. Commercial Special Warranty:
          1. 10 year guarantee.
          2. Guarantee doors against defects in materials and workmanship
               a. For ten years on glass and material.
               b. Five years for parts and labor.

2.02   MATERIALS

       A. Vinyl: Rigid (unplasticized) hollow PVC building extrusion compound with integral color,
          and UV stabilizer formulated and extruded for exterior applications.

2.03   GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

       A. Thermal Performance: Comply with NFRC 100.

       B.   Air Leakage, Water Resistance, Structural Test: Comply with AAMA/WDMA/CSA
            101/I.S.2/A440-05

       C.   Forced-Entry Resistance: Comply with CAWM 300-89 and ASTM F842-04

2.04   SLIDING DOOR

               a. Panel Frame: Minimum 2-1/4 by 1-3/16 inch (57 by 30 mm), multi-chambered
                   vinyl profile.
               b. Sill: 4-1/8 by 1-9/16 inch high (105 by 40 mm high) multi-chambered vinyl
                   profile.
               c. Structural Class:
                   1) SD-LC25 for 96 x 96 inch doors.
                   2) SD-C30 for 96 x 84 inch doors.

                   1) Handle and Lock: Inside and outside pull with lever operated [single] [dual]
                        point jamb lock.

2.05   GLAZING

       A. Insulated Glass Units: ASTM E 2190, 3/4 inch (19 mm) thick overall:

2.06    DIVIDED LITE GRIDS:

        A. [5/8 inch (16 mm) wide flat] [1-1/16 inch (27 mm) wide sculptured] [3/32 inch (8 mm)
           wide designer/pencil] [5/8 inch (16 mm) wide euro] metal bars color matched to frame.

        B.   Grids shall be contained within the airspace of insulated glass units.

2.07    INSECT SCREENS:

        A. Sliding Screen:
           1. Frame: [Roll Formed Steel Frame 1 5/8 x ½ inches (41 x 13mm)] [Extruded
                Aluminum, 2 x ½ inches (51 by 13 mm)].
           2. Hardware:
                a. Lock: Vertical plastic slide.
                b. Rollers: 2 adjustable nylon rollers at top, and 2 adjustable nylon rollers at bottom.
           3. Screen Cloth: [Charcoal] [Grey] colored fiberglass mesh.

2.08    FABRICATION

        A. Fabricate frames and panels with mitered and fusion welded corners and joints for
           continuous frames. Trim and finish corners and welds to match adjacent surfaces.

        B.   Provide concealed metal reinforcement in sash frame for attaching lock mechanism and in
             the meeting rail for added structural stability.

        C.   Factory outside glaze with snap-on PVC glazing stops matching frame finish. Units shall be
             reglazeable without dismantling panel framing.

2.09    FINISH

        A. Frame and Panel Color: [White] [Almond] [Exterior Painted______].

        B.   Color match screen frame to frame and panel color and Exterior color matched screen to
             frame and panel color.

2.10    SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL

        A. Inspect doors in accordance with manufacturer’s Quality Control Program as required by
           AAMA Gold Label certification per AAMA 103-08
PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01    EXAMINATION

       A. Examine openings, substrates, structural support, anchorage, and conditions, with Installer
          present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions
          affecting performance of work. Verify rough opening dimensions, levelness of sill plate, and

            operational clearances. Examine wall flashings, vapor retarders, water and weather barriers,
            and other built-in components to ensure a coordinated, weathertight window installation.
              1. Verify that fasteners in framed walls are fully driven and will not interfere with
                   window installation.
              2. Verify that sill is flat and level.

       B.    Coordinate with responsible entity to correct unsatisfactory conditions.

       C.    Commencement of work by installer is acceptance of substrate conditions.

3.02   INSTALLATION
 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ARE ADEQUATE FOR NORMAL INSTALLATION CONDITIONS IN FRAMED
CONSTRUCTION. PLEASE CHECK WITH EMPIRE PACIFIC WINDOWS FOR UNUSUAL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS.


       A. Install doors in framed walls in accordance with manufacturer’s installation instructions and
          with AAMA 2410.
          1. Flash head and jambs in accordance with AAMA 2400.

       B.    Do not remove temporary labels.

       C.    Install insect screens on operable panels.

3.03   ADJUSTING

       A. Adjust operating sashes and ventilators, screens, hardware, and accessories for a tight fit at
          contact points and weather stripping for smooth operation and weather tight closure.
          Lubricate hardware and moving parts if necessary.

3.04   CLEANING

       A. Reference Section 017400Cleaning and Waste Management.

       B.    Remove temporary labels and retain for Closeout Submittals.

       C.    Clean factory-glazed glass immediately after installing windows. Clean soiled surfaces and
             glass using a mild detergent and warm water solution with soft, clean cloths. Remove
             nonpermanent labels, and clean surfaces.
