Chinatown by William Low SGM Analysis Personal Narrative Characters: a boy and his grandmother Setting: Chinatown Actions: Every morning they go for a walk through Chinatown. They see a tai chi class when they get to the park. They stop and say hello to Mr. Wong, the street cobbler. They walk past the Dai-Dai (DYE-dye) Restaurant. When it gets cold outside they visit the herbal shop so Grandma can make medicinal soup. Sometimes they go to lunch at a seafood restaurant. On Saturdays the boy takes lessons at the kung fu school. The boy’s favorite holiday is Chinese New Year. On New Year’s Day the older kids from the kung fu school march to the beat of thumping drums. (a parade) Grandma and the boy watch the parade and he tells her next year he’ll be marching too.
