									Fun ideas and suggestions to Kick Off a great
       Maryland Charity Campaign!
                       Successful Campaigns
Successful campaigns begin with good planning and staff participation. Successful
campaigns also incorporate special events and excellent communication between the
company coordinator and the MCC representative or Loaned Executive.

Benefits of utilizing special events during kick off or throughout your campaign include:

      Build unity between staff
      Helping the community
      Having Fun
      Advocate for community service
      Increase donations
      Ability to be creative

 Chili Cook Off
                      Get ready for some good chili with a great cause. Staff who dare, enter
                      their secret chili recipe into the Chili Cook Off. It cost $2 to enter to the
                      event and taste each chili recipe. Sodas, chips and crackers can be sold
                      additionally. Money raised can be donated to the Combined Charity
                      Campaign.




Pie Your Boss (PYB)


                      Grab the whipped cream, find your boss, principal or teacher and
                      get ready to help the community! Staff pays $1 per pie to cream
                      their favorite staff member or boss. Money raised will be donated
                      to the Combined Charity Campaign.




Candy Counting Contest

                      Great for students and staff involvement in community service.
                      Participants pay $1 to guess how many pieces of candy are in each
                      jar. Proceeds go the Combined Charity Campaign.

                      Winners take home the jar of candy and will be announced at the
                      end of the campaign or at the end of the Candy Counting special
                      event.

                      Candy ideas:
                      Jelly Beans, M&M’s, Starburst, Bite Size Candy Bars, lollipops,
                      life savers, gum balls, chocolates, laffy taffy, smarties, jolly
                      ranchers, tootsie rolls, Hershey kisses.

Staff members unite and participate in fun games after school          Staff
hours. Students and other staff members can place bets on the
team of their choice. The people who win the bets receive              Olympics
prizes. Refreshments can be sold. Proceeds from the bets and
refreshments can be made to the Combined Charity Campaign.
Students can serve as cheer leaders. Staff not participating in
the events can work the concession stand.


Sample Staff Olympic Games:
Hoola hoop around the cones
3-legged race
Wheel barrow race
Sink a foul shot
Name that baby picture
Carry an egg on a spoon
Water balloon over and under
Football through the hoop




        Coin War
                                                 Got Change? Most people do, why not enter it into a friendly
                                                 competition that goes to charity. Each grade competes against the next.
                                                 Pennies are added while silver coins and dollars are subtracted from the
                                                 total. Beat your opponent or other grade by adding silver coins to their
                                                 jars. Selected individuals from the winning grade receive a prize. All
                                                 proceeds are donated to the Combined Charity Campaign.

Waffle Wednesday’s
                                                          It’s the middle of the week and you need a
                                                          wonderful way to excite the students and staff about
                                                          giving back to the community. Waffle Wednesday’s
                                                          could be the perfect way to have some fun, enjoy
                                                          waffles and raise money for the people in your
                                                          community. Participants pay $2 to enter and get to
                                                          create a belgun waffle of their choice topped with
                                                          chocolate, strawberries, ice cream or plain old
                                                          butter. Additional refreshments can also be sold and
                                                          proceeds can go to the Combined Charity
                                                          Campaign.




                                                                Thirsty Thursday’s
  You’ve been stuck in class all day and really need a
  drink to cool you down. Have no fear Thirsty
  Thursday’s is here! Armed with blenders, fresh fruit,
  milk, ice and ice cream students and staff can enjoy
  smoothies and blended juice drinks for a $1 a drink.
  Staff can make the drinks while students vote on the
  best drink that quenched their thirst.




 French Fry Friday’s
                                                It’s the end of the week head down to the cafeteria for French
                                                Fry Fridays. Students pay $2 and have the option of topping
                                                their favorite kind of French fries with ketchup, cheese, vinegar
                                                and more. Shoe string fries, steak fries, curly fries and waffle
                                                fries call are eaten with fun at the end of the week.
                                                Refreshments can also be sold and money raised can be
                                                donated to the Combined Charity Campaign.

                                       Social Events


International Food Bazaar
                                              Let’s celebrate diversity by sharing foods from different
                                              cultures. The event is free to enter and each person pays $1
                                              to taste the food of their choice. Refreshments can also be
                                              sold and all proceeds can be donated to the United Way of
                                              Central Maryland.




                                                                       Open Mic Night
Has your staff or faculty have talent? Ask them to prove it!
Whether it’s a song, dance or a poetry piece encourage your
co-workers to share their talent as they give money to support
the community. Student can be invited to witness their favorite
teachers perform. A $2 admission can be charged to enter.
Refreshments can also be sold and all proceeds go the
Combined Charity Campaign.




   Karaoke Night
                                         Grab the mic it’s your time to shine. Sing your favorite tune as
                                         you help raise money for a good cause. Armed with a karaoke
                                         machine and matching props and costumes students can pay to
                                         see their favorite teachers sing the song of their choice.
                                         Refreshments can be sold and all proceeds can be donated to
                                         the Combined Charity Campaign.

                                                                 Staff Tricycle Race
       Students can cheer for their favorite teachers as they
       race for United Way. Students can place their bets on
       the team of their choice. Individuals placing bets on
       the winning team receives prizes. Refreshments can
       be sold and all proceeds can go to the Combined
       Charity Campaign.




  Traditional Special Events
                                                                                       Ice Cream
BYOB! Bring your own bowl… or borrow one of ours! Kick off your fund
raising campaign right with an ice cream social. Learn about where your
money goes and how it benefits your local community while enjoying cold
refreshing ice cream. Staff and students can enjoy delicious ice cream sundaes
for only $2 per each. Money raised can be donated to the Combined Charity
Campaign.




                                                        What better way to get people out to support the community
                                                        and have some fun then a good ol' pizza party. Cheese,
                                                        pepperoni, and supreme can really get your taste buds going.
                                                        A pizza party can be a great way to socialize ad raise money
                                                        for a good cause. Staff can enjoy pizza for $1 a slice.
                                                        Additional refreshments can be sold and all money raised
                                                        can be donated to the Combined Charity Campaign.

                                                                                        Bake Sale
                                                                                        Bonanza
Cakes, cookies, and treats oh my! Welcome to the bake sale bonanza. Get in
line and purchase a tasty treats that is connected to the community. Students
and staff sign up to bake their best treats and sale them during the students
lunch periods. Proceeds can be donated to the Combined Charity Campaign.
Students who also wish to bake can also take part in the fundraising efforts.
Money raised can be a benchmark and challenge for teachers and staff to
match. Additional refreshments can be sold such as soda and water for
additional funds to help the community.




                                                Grab a bucket, water and a towel its time to wash some cars.
                                                Accepting donations never have been so much fun. Students and
                                                staff can use this event as a community service project while the
                                                money earned gets donated to the Combined Charity Campaign. A
                                                bake sale can also been combined with this event to raise additional
                                                funds.

    Each special event or kick off may begin with a MCC representative and or an
     agency speaker. The responsibilities of the MCC representative are to briefly
     address the staff and share the benefits of the organizations fund raising efforts.
     An agency speaker is an individual that works at an organization that directly
     receives funding from the Maryland Charity Campaign.
    All campaigns can raise additional funds by selling refreshments at the special
     events. Proceeds can go to the Maryland Charity Campaign.
    Friendly competition can be a great motivator to encourage people to give back to
     their community. Any schools incorporating the same special events can compete.
     Prizes will be given to the school that raises the most money. For example 2 or 3
     schools may decide to do a Coin War. Which ever school raises the most money
     will be elected the winner. This competition can also be accomplished in the same
     school between different grades. All proceeds can be donated to the Maryland
     Charity Campaign.
