BURLCO CALLS FOR ARTISTS FOR EAGLE SCULPTURE PROJECT Local Artists to Adorn Eagles for Display Along River LINE Towns Burlington County artists are being invited to submit designs for painting and decorating fiberglass eagle sculptures for the county’s Eagles Have Landed public art project along the River LINE and riverfront communities. The project steering committee has sent letters to county-based artists informing them of the plans for the adorned eagles to be on display for several months next year and then auctioned to raise funds for nonprofit arts, cultural and historical organizations in Burlington County. “The Eagle sculpture project is a fun, exciting way to showcase the talents of local artists while supporting Burlington County’s nonprofit art and culture organizations, as well as economic growth and tourism among our riverfront towns,” said Freeholder Director Vincent R. Farias, honorary co-chair of the steering committee along with Senator Diane Allen. “The artists will use the eagle prototypes as their canvas to express their vision of Burlington County’s unique history and local culture,” Allen said. PRESS RELEASE, EAGLE CALL FOR ARTISTS, ADD ONE, 8-4-04 Artists must submit their design proposals and previous work examples to the County’s Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs by September 15. A Selection Committee representing the local arts community will evaluate the proposals and choose finalists by December 15. Selected artists will receive a $500 honorarium plus 5 percent of the net price of their eagle upon sale at the auction gala to be held in the fall of 2005 at the Palmyra Cove Nature Center. Plans call for the five-foot sculptures, which will be an eagle sitting on a mooring, to be completed in the spring for public display from April through September. The steering committee chose the majestic eagle as the animal sculpture due to its symbol of strength and comeback, just as the riverfront towns and businesses are making their comeback. The number of sculptures will be determined by the number of sponsors. The committee’s goal is to have an eagle at each of the Burlington County River LINE stations and into the business communities. To receive an artist prospectus and application by mail, call the Burlington County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs at 609-265-5897. For more information on how you can become involved as a sponsor or volunteer, contact Joyce Goldsmith, administrator of the program, at (609) 265-5838.
